couple of girls driving 8 wheeler tippers by us. Treat them no different than the blokes, full piss taking all the time.

There was a really nice girl worked in the civils supplier. Started off green but learnt really quickly and was really helpful. She was quite attractive and just seemed to have a qué of blokes trying it on with her. I don't know why most of them thought they had a chance and it must make the day a bit s**t. Some of my colleagues complained she was a miserable bitch and I pointed out that if they spoke to her politely and like an equal she was perfectly happy and pleasant to deal with.
Far to many neanderthals in this industry

Sometimes if you ask nicely they’ll load you with a wagon if there is one parked up!

You must be asking very nicely, the default position of every yardsman I've ever met is you are greatly inconveniencing them by asking them to do there job.
Not uncommon for the ones in burdens civils to drop a pallet next to you and piss off until you have hand balled it all in yourself

That's if you can find one to ask, customers that may actually need some assistance are to be avoided normally

pretty standard MO in our local merchants too .... have been stood at the counter for ever, before now ... gone back out, dumped everything on the floor in the middle of the yard and gone elsewhere ... hard enough finding some one to 'serve' you, since they went all ''no self service'' .... but then finding anyone indoors to book it out is mission impossible .. so **** 'em

My regular place are bloody good, go in, order, whoever takes your order loads you, or hands the ticket direct to someone else who is ready to load you straight away.
They are all helpful as well- I once had a full bundle of sleepers loaded into a plant trailer, using 2 forklifts and a round fence post, can't see Travis Perkins doing that... Can't even climb on your own van roof tack there to strap down your load!! Then there's Wickes who won't let you slash the bottom of a bulk bag ffs!
The places that drive me up the wall most are the ones where you go in, order, pay, then have to wander round to find someone to load you- basically you're queueing twice, even if you manage to find someone in the yard. As much as I dislike Travis, mainly on price (their system where individual branches can give a price, then not have enough stock to complete the order, so they send you to another branch, who charge the 'book' price, nearly cost me thousands a couple of years ago...), at least their system is logical. Order in yard, load, pay. Although they are replacing the simple, reliable paper yard tickets with bloody Tablets now, so it's bound to get slower 😆 🤣

My main 2 now are sound, markovitz tideswell know all the guys and yard lads by name. Pull in a m like 2 bulks bags 10mm clean etc

I go into counter book it out and generally get some free stuff like tape measures or pens or 1mm disks etc get ticket and go back out and it’s loaded all ready for me

Other one is near our yard single site family place go in know them all load up and go, sometimes if on a flier or late ring them they’ll leave some cement etc by the gates for me to grab.
