Anyone running the above, they are a small lowboy pick up (load bed 530 mm off ground) Based on Vauxhall Movano, Fiat or Citroen FWD (?) 3500 Kg pick up chassis cab. Day's Rental & Gap seem to have them. Some builds claim 1600 Kg Load. Hard to find out more without committing to being badgered by salesmen, One question is width between rear wheel arches that protrude into load area, & when did they first come about - have seen one in used market. If never going off hard road maybe more cost effective than costly pick up & trailer??? Though always limited to 1600kg machines

" I'll just get him for you" and put the phone on the desk/dash/wall/whatever ...... they'll soon get the message :giggle:

do they have no towing ability ???

You’re always gonna be too close to the wind. What mini is sub 1600kg these days, let alone with the buckets you’re gonna need?

I keep thinking about making something, but I just know I’d end up running dodgy. My LDV steel tipper carries 1400kg legally, could get that to 1700kg with a skeleton frame but still not enough for the e19 or multione. And the e10 already fits legally.

Thanks Pettsy, I see they can tow, the one I saw had removable ramps rather than a full width tailgate, I imagine the more basic the build the more carrying weight. Guess the long full width tailgate meant for long wheeled items such as scissor lifts. I guess you would have to run machines to suit the max rather than the other way round. Operating weight is often quoted, digging into this -subtract 75 kg for operator, canopy models much lighter than glazed cab. I remember 'Local Diggers' having a special build truck for his stuff

And I guarantee you he was still overweight!

The truck that is, not Dan!

Local hire firm to us has one - it's had the cab reattached to the rear body at least twice in the past 5 years. Plus it's has a good bit of tig welding to repair the ali bed.

So they buy an off the shelf chassis cab, cut all off behind the cab & add their own rear chassis from the back of the cab onwards? Not sure the one I aw parked up would have been 1810 mm between the wheel arches, maybe an earlier model based on something smaller
Other day I saw a 2.5t digger on a trailer being towed by a Transit pick up, so no doubt the Plant & go is often well overloaded
Found a bit more info, seems they have been made since 2010
What interests me is the fact of being able to move a more traditional dumper that would be too wide on a 4ft 3'' width plant trailer

We run a few of them, max we can (legally) put on them is 1400kg, ours have seperate ramps which form part of the van sides when not in use. Ours don't have any provision for towing, the back end is so lightweight you'd tear it to pieces with a trailer.

They are bought as back to back units. Essentially 2 cabs joined together you then cut them in half and stick on your own rear end and body.

They’re like motorhome spec.

Some of the alko chassis conversions are designed to allow a higher gvw than a standard chassis!
problem with using alloy is unless it's aircraft grade it ain't gonna stick the pace

You see them (or used to?) off the M5 at Avonmouth, where the motorway goes over the river Avon, on the south side of the river.
