When I watch videos of building work in other countries, not Africa or India type places , but Europe Australia America and the like I can only assume that we vastly over engineer everything to such an extent that they assume you have to be doing a really bad job for there to be any problem.
Then the big developers that do appalling work just don't care full stop

I’d keep going back to them just to waste their time after trying to take the piss, don’t think I’d spend my money with them though!
wind them down as far as you can .... then tell them to **** off .... then publicise the whole episode on FB pages, with all costs /names/etc. -- lots of 'em

Literally every inspector who comes out to my jobs has no idea of the build or what the last / current inspection was for!
They do take a lot more pictures these days, but mostly just ask me to take them

Just going through the motions, a tick box exercise, they've never looked at any drawings, not that they'd understand them? Does anyone ever look at these pictures or has anyone ever had any feedback ? like a phone conversation, regarding the pictures of whatever don't look quite right ? One asked me what reinforcing was going in the slab. I said I don't know exactly land told him to read the drawings. It did not go down well.

Independent building control firms? They aren’t council/gov run with you?

Lots of independent firms now appointed by mortgage company’s to insure build is done correctly . It’s a created industry , funded by an additional cost on your self build mortgage . Sometimes the council will also use them when they have a busy work load which is most of the time because they are so useless at processing applications on time

Round this way, find the council the best for building control although since the change in management of the councils it's a s**t show.
Speaking to a guy who use to build a few houses he was using an independent insurance guarantee for the 10 year warranty, it's separate to the building control and they only do 4 or so visits but is a good 50% saving per house compared to nhbc/labc guarantee

Had a Volvo ec27D on hire today . It was nice to get to try it as it was the machine I likely would of bought if it was 100kg lighter . Especially given that I’ve had such good service from my Volvo ec18c
The cab is very similar in size to the 18 and so are all the controls . It has the long dipper and extra counterweight , biggest bucket supplied with it was a 600mm which I’ve been digging with all day . It seems to have plenty of grunt , breakout force is very good and the machine is agile and really well balanced . I didn’t like the seat , I was on it all day and it felt like I’d been riding a bucking bronco . Also the tracks on slow speed are too slow and have very little grunt . It feels a bit sluggish tracking about compared to the 18 . All in all if I had of bought one I wouldn’t of been disappointed .

I'd have to agree with all of that, tracking on mine isn't great and I can't figure out exactly what it is about the seat, I think it's more the position than the seat itself, don't know if the tracking could be tweaked ?

It is strange as the 18 is lively on its feet. It would help it if it could be tweaked but it wouldnt Put me off buying one , more of an observation than a complaint. The seat is odd because it looks identical to the seat in the 18 so maybe it is as you any more about position . I forgot to say that I really like the auto idle , in these days off white diesel I'd like to see that on all of them .
