Tensioner spring help

Hi all, I am after some help. I have a tensioner spring I need to replace from an old yanmar tracked dumper. I have attached the setup in the pictures. Is the what is holding the plate and spring on just a threaded end? Or how is it kept together.

Looks like a welded on collar to me.

Not something I'd want to be fking about with!

How does the tensioner work? Those look like a compressed spring which is locked from moving with welds both ends, which can't be the case otherwise it wouldn't do anything?

I guess the rod would slide through the plate compressing the spring, depending on space I remove the broken spring part and adjust up to what’s left!

retaining collar on this end

with big circular cap on t'other end .... rod slides through a hole in the big square plate ... 'S gonna be an 'assembly' to replace
or
chop the coils in the knackered one with the gas to relieve any tension ... and grind the retaining weld off the collar to get it and the square plate off .. find/acquire a suitable replacement spring ... compress it and re-assemble the unit.
there are ppl out there capable of making the spring

plenty of them rotting in fields etc should be a few knocking about being Brocken, I know of one with a knackered engine in afield

what's the rest of it like ...... stick a V8 in it, on LPG .. be a beast of a weapon then

That’s the one in the field near our yard guy I half know tried to sell it me as we’ve got a few tracked dumpers

Thanks, I didn’t want to be chopping it off if it was threaded. I have a company that will make a new spring but won’t assemble it. I would take one if they were available but my search yielded nothing

get the spring made, take it to bits, re-assemble and fit

He meant the final drive not the engine

it’s the older model not hydraulic drive, clutch steering one

Been a cheaper repair with the engine gone! Not the hydrostatic!

Yes
