Yep - well spotted re Terrys ‘field’
It is indeed part of his large garden. His father, Sid, used to grow vegetables on that plot and sell them out the front
When Sid died about 30yrs ago, Terry retired into his childhood home. He’s kept the vegetable plot as very tidy lawns. In the expectation that one day he’ll get planning permission for a similar bungalow to his

Yep - certainly could have done with a nice thumb
Each time I got a bundle of brash balanced and curled up on the 600 it slipped off
So had to resort to the Armstrong method and bash it into the dumper skip

Here in NE Essex it cleared up this afternoon with a few clouds so I went out for a nice run

This is Dovercourt Bay promenade where I often meet fellow HR Runners. Today I meet the loverly Nicola, we chatted for a few moments and resumed our training

nice work, as always. I like a bit of hedge grubbing myself, satisfying. I remember pulling loads out for a local parish council. BTD6, chain, hedge slasher, drum of diesel and matches. Old school. Greta wouldn’t like it.

My builder mate Dave said a few weeks ago, "Can you just dig some foundations for me on an extension that I have to build?"
Looked at the job last week. The usual snags to be overcome. Like where the spoil going? "You need my dumper as well then"
And, "Can you just do the FW drains and the new soakaways?"
"Sure looks like you need me for a few weeks then.....but more importantly what about those trees and hedge right beside the dig?"
Got my NHBC DepthCalc App out and it was throwing up 'snags'
"Let's get a BC Inspection done in my test hole on the first pull and go from there"

So Monday rocked up and at 600mm deep hit 'good ground' with a few traces of clay.
The original footings were at 1200mm
BC agreed with my App, identified the tree species and simply said, "Follow it round at 1200 then step, down to 1360 at 4m from the hedge"

So said to Dave, "We can dig this out with the other snags in 3 days. Pour the concrete on Friday morning"

Good ground that - loads of flint so had to put my teeth back on

Nice little step and corner holding up well

Dave doing safe digging to try and find the water main. Well he is 2 years younger than me

Don't panic - random piece of marker tape in the made up ground

Today completed it all in the pouring rain

Job jobbed - That's me done for the week then. 3 day job boshed out in only 2 days
Back once the concrete has been poured.....

I always advise to pour the concrete asap
It’s always a bastard to dig out and board up after a cave in

Yeah. I'd never leave it till next day as the only luck i have is bad. It would definitely rain or pipe burst and cave in
