Legally machines need to be drained, cleaned and filters changed.... Although I know several organisations/associations are looking forward to making a mockery of HMRC in court.

IMHO would be best for all to completely outlaw red and give farmers a grant towards the taxation cost based on acreage.... Farm fuel efficiency and your actually earning money off the grant.

Can imagine as with all these acreage payments that other wealthy landowners suddenly do very well out of it for their "farm"

It's all gone very quiet over here re GNR (red) and white .... nobody is discussing it ....
Bit of digging reveals it's been knocked back to 1st Jan 2024 - so we get a bit of time to use up what we have.

Simple.... Sliding scale and a requirement to be the actual farmer/farm accounts.

Smaller the farm the higher the payment.... Done on a sliding scale with farms under 100a getting say £100 per acre, and units at 1500a or more getting say £20.

How on earth could they keep those lovely green bio-gas plants going without cheap diesel to grow feedstock?

Sounds like a massive subsidy for hill sheep farmers and won't touch the sides for a spud grower for example.

Environmentally which is more damaging and which one is more profitable. If we are going on the environmental heroism as the reason for the removal of fuel rebates then encouraging farms to use less or no fuel is a winner.

Spuds are particularly soil destructive these days with a focus on elimination of stone to reduce the required numbers of expensive pickers...... You didn't completely destone fields pre war.

Personally I think it would solve all the issues. It even solves the contractor issue as although they need to put rates up the farmers rebate will contribute.

The only thing you would need is a iron fist proving the land is still in productive use..... But we already have that type of monitoring for setaside..

But then you're back to -do you want people to eat? Or at least have cheap food? I think the gov does. THree meals away from anarchy and all that jazz.

You can have cheap food simply by reigning in the supermarkets and encouraging produce to be sold affordably direct from farm.

what on earth would make you think the government would practice what they preach? Firstly that would involve them actually believing in what they say and secondly being able to joined up thinking. I don’t think either are likely any time soon.

Easier just to let Australia do the intensive bit for us is the way the gov think. Personally I'm all up for direct to market. Jeremy Clarkson like him or loath was thinking along these very lines with his farm shop in the latest series. Local farmers selling in cooperation and the key is seasonal. Its not necessarily going to be the cheap option for the punter but quality over quantity and all that. Id sooner eat a decent bit of meat one or twice a week, than Australian beef or EU pork twice a day

Was a couple of weeks go, I bought GTL instead for a couple of pence more.

I’m on the point of ordering some GTL , have you found any downside of using it? Other than the obvious price difference.
I want to have a few 205L drums on site and try and avoid the problems with water contamination I always seem to get with drums.

No downsides for me so far, been using it 4-5 years now I guess.
