What do you reckon to keep me safe from 200kg odd of metal box behind mewhen driving. I think im gonna change the bulkhead bars to a cage but what do you reckon the swl of this anchor point is i cant find it specified in the book.
I was thinking of getting something welded to the back pillar and the chaining the handle of box to that
Any better ideas?

I had a box like that in a pickup once. I cut a small rectangular hole in the back. Then had a hinged bar attached to the truck bed. The bar slid through the hole I had cut and had a hole in it for a padlock. It made it removable but still not easily removable from the truck.

Annoying they dont list a max weight for that existing point but would you trust it with 200kg of metal behind you? The bars behind seat dont fill me with confidence either. Were alot thicker in last van

I wouldn't consider any kind of welding to the frame of the van. Unless it's to a chassis member that is beefy. I reckon the lashing point there is good for 200 kgs or as mentioned above you could bolt an RSA through the floor of the van across the front of the box so it can slide forward. You can fix a lashing to the RSA so you can lash the box front and back

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
if it isn't coming out, bolt it down to the floor, with some spreaders or 4" x 4" washers under the van floor

I would like to be able to take out if needed
Weld the nuts to the washers under the van and sikaflex them in position when you fit it ... then it's just undo the bolts from inside the box and the fixings should stay in place to put it back (cut bolts off flush with the nuts when installed and and schultz it all to keep the watter oot)

Couldn't you just use rivnuts and bolt straight through the bottom of the box? They provide a really strong fixing and if you are worried you can always use a few extra.
This shows fastening data:
's alright if you have the kit to install them Gra ..
and they'm in some pretty thin material ...
plus you'd have to move the box out the way, once drilled to install the rivnuts and make sure you're in a flat portion of the ribbed floor.....
should be good enough though, as mostly a shear load ..
I'd Schult the buggers underneath though ..
make getting 'em undone a lot easier ;)(y)

If you only need to install half a dozen a nut and bolt will set them. Might get a bit tedious with too many though

Had a bit of a swap round today i think it will work better like this. Loose a bit of dead space behind the box but can be got at by folding seats forward. The back tyres look a bit better now with the box in the middle of the van.

What do you lot think to the strapping? If i decide to keep like this i will just get 2 smaller straps each side.

Ply lining next week so it all has to come out again anyway.

Personally, I’d make a full bulkhead. Should the worst happen, those bits might be aiming for your head! Also stops prying eyes seeing the toolbox from the front.
