Worn out rake bucket repair

Bought this 5 ton rake out of auction but think they put it down on road and drove lowloader 100 miles

Needs about 5” adding back on

Is there someone who’ll profile something to weld back on or abandon it stick it back in an auction and buy a new rake bucket save the hassle or send it to holiday @V8Druid for him to fix and paint it Brown

what you give for it ? assume it's MS not hardox .. lot of effort unless mega cheap

Think it was £200 plus a bit of buyers premium, new one for 5 about £800 ish

I wouldn't waste my time personally. I'm bad myself for doing the same thing, buying something cheap then working on it to make it better. Don't think there's a single time it has actually been cheaper when you consider it's still not new when you've finished. I think you'd draw plenty back for it and go and buy a new item. By the time you've spent a couple of hundred in steel, probably similar in time (prep and welding) then consumables, it probably not worth it and the rest of the bucket still has wear associated with the use that wore the tines out in the first place...

Launch it into euros and get a new one, if your going to repair it I wouldn't get carried away you should be able to weld a bit of bar up the side of the tines rather than trying to build the tips up.

I'm also in the 'dont waste your time' camp with that. personally I think that's still got a bit of life in it- get some money's worth of work out of it, flog it and replace with new.

Think that would be my approach, use it as it is, or cut out the lower bracing between the tines and weld new in a few inches further up. Make it into more of a rake than a rake bucket.

Giles, I suggest you give Mayflower Engineering in Sheffield a shout. We used to buy all sorts of profile cut Hardox from them.

I wouldn’t touch it personally, I can’t see how anyone could wear that down so much - I’d just assume it was designed like that?

Not if cheat whip the connectors out with 230mm 1mm disc on battery DEWALT then some 30mm x 5-10mm flat bar etc welded on.

@V8Druid i was only speculating about the wear no idea how it happened
