It’s the old culvert/drain and lower exit of an old fluorite/lead mine

A lot of water comes out of it which the design hasn’t taken into account in the proposed repair but being schedule ancient monument I guess can’t do our own thing lol

Drainage problems in the mine meant that a proposal to build a low-level sough was put forward in 1772 but this was not completed for many years, probably not until the 1840s. It was driven up from Hollowford Brook at Trickett Bridge in Castleton to the workings. The mine produced extensive spoil and this was used by the Manchester and Sheffield Turnpike company in 1802 when constructing a new road between the two places. The spoil contained fluorspar, calcite, and barite which was extracted in later years when their value became known.

Threw this up today, it ain’t pretty we only had 1 day and no access and we will be rebuilding the stonework on the mine exit somehow in new year. We’d herras’d panelled it originally while approval was sought as it’s a schedule historic monument so approval given do it asap!! keep ppl away from danger area.

Didn’t bother doing box strainers as ground was rock and until we make access not worth it. Didn’t cut post off either as they’ll be coming out in 2 months and at £7 a pop may as well try reuse them

Trusty sds max and 55mm hilti breach bit worked a treat to pilot them before handheld knocker did its thing. Having done 25 years or more of hand fencing with a traditional post banger as in metal pipe with 1” top and 2 handles the petrol one is a treat to use

I can answer the first two questions Furniss.

The tyre pressure requirements for your truck should be listed somewhere around the door opening. If not there the Manual you should have for the truck will tell you. Although those tyres may run to 130 psi it will be a harsh ride for the truck and yourself. On my Hino which is rated at 15 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) the pressures are 110 psi. I usually run at 100 psi which is a more comfortable ride especially empty on rough roads.

As far as greasing, check your Manual. Not only will it give you info on how often, it will also show you where all the grease points are. Some are hidden in remote places.

Because it unsightly and looks like a building sites! We are fixing the stone work so it’s no longer dangerous just need to work out a price

2.5 years old, can’t of done 10k miles absolutely rotted through on the mid pipe and tail pipe at the flange.. emailed supplier to see what they think… had to order replacement else it would be off the road! Wouldn’t have minded scrabbling around on my back on a Sunday afternoon if I could have fixed it there and then! Had Only got a replacement mid section as the tailpipe looked fine, but it flaked away to nothing when removing the bolts!

snap ... less than 5k .... box is fine .... pipe is bollo-ed beyond repair .....

trebled in price since last one which went exactly the same

over axle (2 yr old) and centre (been on there years-possibly original), got done less than 12 months ago

along with the original cats ('97) which were physically fine ... just not functional ... getting the gear box X-member out was fun

nothing lasts like it did ....

know what you mean, but mine usually does sufficient runs to get it hot ... the pull up our drive, or the roads up to our place is enough to get it properly hot every time .... plus it never pulls away cold ... always have to build/run the air up, 'fore going anywhere ... 's always pinging and tinging when parked

Yeah I get that, condensation sits in the exhaust, but the bit that has rotted away is the highest part of the exhaust over the axle..
luckily the original down pipe/cat is still mint after 10 years! They are around £2500 for a new one

It looks a bit close to the plastic trim there @V8Druid are you not concerned about it taking fire.
My grandfather had this with his montego going down the A9 and everyone was flashing and tooting at him. Was quite a big fire when he finally stopped

LOL ... and yes it is ... I'll drop it down and give it the die grinder and burr, when i feel enthused ..... and it ain't ferkin rainin' .....
that exhaust is N American spec. ....
original was a twin tail pipe ..
changed when it was gas-ed, as the filler has to be 300mm away from the exhaust, according to LPGA - COP II, in effect when it was fitted ... fill port for the LPG is where the second/LH tail box would've lived

Ah blocked adit got plenty down here probably to many to make them worth making a scheduled monument

so this came into its own again (nearly sold it a few weeks back but with the shitty weather and it having a cab will probably keep it, sorry mate)

Off a hilux? My replacement one did the same at similar age, won't do it again though the rest of it will rot away first.

there's a BIG difference between 'proper' stainless steel and what passes for stainless in yer average 'SS' exhaust .... they rot too
Had an SE5 Scimitar many years ago with a full front to back Janspeed SS system ... it still rotted
