You could have had the road reg then put it on a SORN. Zero Road tax, but available should you need it in the future. Getting it road registered later is a nightmare.

Ag vehicle free, telehandler if non ag should be special types and should be £165

what gaz said ... only ag handler is zero VED ... otherwise special types, like a duck or a crane, even if it's a 1000 tonner

I have my bigger Menzi on a SORN. Tax it for 1 month a year when doing some road work between local jobs. In reality I would probably get away with it, but for one months tax why bother.

be funnier still if was clocked at 40+mph, when it's only capable of 30 kliks(?) ... mucho egg on face for the ANPR team especially if you opted to fight it and appear

I believe the joke would be on you as you should cover the reg of anything other than the tow vehicle.

thinking about it you're almost certainly correct - technically .... never see plates covered on vehicles on transporters though (multi or slide deck or trailers )

On trade plates you used to have to cover the reg but now the rules are reg needs to be visible as well as trade plate.

FYI you could register it as a Agri/Forestry machine, however you'd be in the s**t if caught on the road doing non exempt works. The other one would be a Off Road tractor which is also in the special concessionary group.

They can't manage to catch the convoy round here of fastraks towing 40ft trailers loaded with excavators fully signed up as plant hire and a beefy flap reminding everyone they are over weight but never late.

Whats the chances of them checking the tax code on a fully insured mini loader nipping down the road to wherever the trucks parked??

Exactly...or the Polaris rangers belting along at 50mph that have never seen a farm yard...blatantly advertised as cheap to run ag registered on adverts etc.
