It’s the sight they can’t stand. To be fair they are very messy ‘farmers’. Looks more like a pikey yard. Most needs to go in the scrap.

What is it with farmers? They always moan about how poor they are as they get out of their new range rover, but leave thousands of pounds of scrap littering their land. If they were anything like as poor as they say they would be weighing it in. I guess you can't be a real farmer unless you you have several generations worth of scrap laying about.

Partly Naivety, partly being optimistic. They often don't understand how weighing in works and end up doing themselves out of pounds either selling to crap merchants, selling to D.A.U.L or not parting stuff out.
The optimism is either they will fix XYZ or parts from XYZ will fit YZX

The thing is whilst yes they are comfortable it's all a bit of a front. The farm owns this big nice house they live in so no mortgage. Then most farmers I've met have a complete inability to leave the farm so they arnt paying for holidays. But if you look at the profitability of the farms it is pretty dismal in comparison to other industries. Alot of turn over for not much profit.
Noone bemoans the owner of a tech company owning a nice car but everyone complains about the owner of a multimillion pound farm driving what is usually a second hand range Rover ( every farmer I have met is to tight to buy a new one ).

I don’t care if they drive a Ferrari, it is the moaning about being poor I was highlighting, whilst having enough scrap around the place to keep normal people for years.
farming for many is a lifestyle choice. If they own a multi million pound farm and are not making good money they could sell up and live on the investment income, but I don’t know any that have done so.
Most tech people who have made it seem only too keen to tell you how rich they are. Also there seems to be a huge amount of moaning about what Bill Gates, Elon Musk etc spend their money on.

95% of farmers are the dirtiest, untidiest, tightest bunch of individuals you could ever meet, happily live in lakes of shite, surrounded by piles of crap going back decades.
Won't part with that, 'cos it's either made of gold or unobtainium and no-one will pay what they think it's worth, so it'll rot to nothing.
Rarely pay tax as just about everything is off-settable, no IHT so no way they're going to sell up, pay CGT and then IHT at a later date
Absolutely every penny they spend will either come out of the farm a/c or be put against it, including all their multiple vehicle collection ... grieves them to have to pay VED ... would all drive tractors everywhere if they could

I think the answer is yes!!
It had a rough plank floor when I got it. I put chipboard over it as there were some holes and recently a bit of checker plate where the tracks sit.
Lights are all wired. The flooring is now cut and started fixing. Various different reasons keep stopping play, mainly child related!! But hopefully a couple of hours tomorrow will have it all done.

but few other businesses would get away with putting their entire existences against their biz a/c.s .... take out all of that, allowances, etc. and they'd soon be showing healthy profits ... and what other biz can get paid for sitting on their arses (SFP,s, etc.)

the issue with the SFP system is it's seen as a God given right and the levels that acreage bring in, regardless, would be considered as a bloody good income by many mere mortals .... there's little in the way of accountability brought to bear on recipients to show any VFM

Your just surrounded by hill farmers though. It seems to be a livestock thing to hoard crap.arable units are usually pretty clean places.
Some of the big dairy and beef units can be. But it's always the more business minded that are better. Because farms are inherited and it's a way of life you end up with far to many terrible business men running businesses
