The trick people seem to miss (including some on this forum) with small lorries is they are a premium product to be picky with..... A 18t or smaller lorry should be charging 8 legger rates to go places others cannot..... And you will get them and make lots of money if done correctly.
The difficulty with this is the risk of damage to the lorry and the fact you need a certain type of driver.
Yes, I'm £20 a load cheaper than an 8 wheeler, if I move someone's muck, which is not why I bought but nice bouns when you do.
Lots say why is it only £20 cheaper but your 6t per load less than an 8 wheeler? My answer is, its still the same amount of time taken to get to the job, load up and tip off. It still uses similar amounts of diesel and its got to be worth it for me to come off our price jobs to do it.
Strangley I still get the calls we've had a load taken but there's some left over can you take it. These are only ringing for the £20 saved by having me rather than asking the 8w to come back.
I looked at a job recently, there was already a pile of spoil left by the landscapers/builders. I said there's 2 loads there for me. Bloke was adamant one 8w would clear it all away, so I sent my good friend with the 8w and he rang me saying got it but there's 3/4t left over....guess I'll be clearing that away with a smile on my face.
