so who wants to hazard a guess at the loading on the ring coupling/pick up hitch on the above then or alternatively how much over the 3t design limit it is??????

picture pinched from Ollie's twitter post, commenting on it ... ;)

" Lol, I mean you can't argue they don't have the budget for it either!
There is a well known pipeline going through my area to an airport that seem to favour tractors a little too much too.
Its only fair on the people doing it properly that this sort of thing is policed correctly
. "(y)

if only it happened :rolleyes::mad:

To be fair at least it's chained down. I went past what I presume is the same site and they where running dump trailers of sand around literally falling off it was piled so high. I know farmers that would think twice about it. And no sheet. I couldn't work out why they where using tractors tbh couldn't see an advantage the sections I drove past.

The advantage with a tractor on a large Civils job is partially the lack of Tacho Requirements, and also the flexibility between Lowbed, Bowser, Tipper.

As long as it doesn’t do “transport” on the public highway!!

Still don't need a tacho -

"Vehicles not capable of exceeding 40 km/ h
For example, some works vehicles fall into this category. Also includes vehicles incapable of exceeding 40 km/ h by virtue of a set speed limiter."

Road maintenance and control

Vehicles used in connection with road maintenance services which:

  • are engaged on a journey directly relating to the maintenance services, for example, removing rubble or other materials or
  • are being used directly on the maintenance activity, for example, laying tarmac
Such vehicles will fall within this derogation however journeys to a site for the purpose of positioning the vehicle in readiness for engaging in the maintenance activity or for returning to base after the maintenance activity has ended will not fall within this derogation.

Vehicles which are to be used or have been used that same day in connection with highway maintenance and control and don’t travel far from the site where the work of highway maintenance is being carried out will fall within the derogation."

R.E O licensing - "

Exemptions

You do not need a goods vehicle operator’s licence if your vehicle:
  • was first used before 1977, has an unladen weight of 1,525 kilograms or less and a maximum gross plated weight over 3,500 kilograms
  • is using public roads for less than 6 miles a week whilst moving between private premises belonging to the same person as the vehicle (if the vehicle’s used for excavation or demolition it does not matter who it belongs to)
  • is being used on trade plates
  • is a passenger carrying vehicle"

I can understand one or two but they where everywhere. It didn't seem wet enough to warrant them. Plus they have track Matt's everywhere. They don't hold as much as an 8 wheeler on road. They don't hold as much as an ADT off road. On the sections of pipeline running down the road. The site is cramped and the tractor drivers where obviously struggling to maneuver where an 8 wheeler would have taken up less space. Or a 9t dumper for what they where doing.
A 20t machine unloading out of it from the rear does not look beneficial to the back door.
It looks more like the site manager has a friend in the John Deere dealer tbh.

Don’t know about overkill🤔 plenty of overhang though😳
I reckon with that monster crane she'll be planted enough to get you round most corners, you may need to dab the brakes occasionally to get bit more weight on the steering axle for some ☺️

I was thinking more the fact it may be a tad over a meter over hang at the back😳 and will have a fair tail swing too😂😂

You get up to 3050mm ☺️ just need some marker boards
yeh 3ft un-marked, 10ft with appropriate markers .... and it ain't a lot past the end of the bed anyway, plus well within the 60% of wheelbase for tail swing, even accounting for his additional 'overhang' ;):)
