Horsepower plenty adequate on mine @ 290 but yep a splitter would make for a nicer drive at times.I tend to wish for more gears rather than more horse power.
Amazing what a difference a splitter makes.

Only time I've seen an 8speed range change in 18tonners is when they have the bigger horse engines and they are few and far between. Can't say I've seen many with split on 18tonners if at allI tend to wish for more gears rather than more horse power.

I’d of liked that lorry if it didn’t have the grab . What do you reckon it could carry in the box as it is ?Only time I've seen an 8speed range change in 18tonners is when they have the bigger horse engines and they are few and far between. Can't say I've seen many with split on 18tonners if at all
Supposedly the crane on my truck weighs 1.5t and the grab bucket weighs 380kgs. It gives me a legal payload of 9.8t with around 420l of derv in tank. With half a tank I can get a full 10t on.I’d of liked that lorry if it didn’t have the grab . What do you reckon it could carry in the box as it is ?
I was guessing 7.5 max .... 's got to be over 10t empty ..... 'tis nice thoughSupposedly the crane on my truck weighs 1.5t and the grab bucket weighs 380kgs. It gives me a legal payload of 9.8t with around 420l of derv in tank. With half a tank I can get a full 10t on.
So surely it's got to be in the 6 to 7 ton range with a body on for that truck

Many moons ago when I was on for an agency, sometime in the late 80’s, I had a Scany for a few days, 24 tonne, 380 hoss with a bulk body and blower. 6x2, third axle lift,, it had a turning circle better than a 7.5 tonner with the axle up, absolutely flew. Even loaded it only needed half of the 16 gears. Story was they’d specked the engine for the big discharge blower and Scania would only supply it with the 16 speed box. I remember giving a lad in a 205 a surprise running empty away from a set of lights.Scanias tend to be 8 speed 18t much better than the 6 found in daf and iveco
Best I have driven was 26t with 410hp and 16 spee, it absolutely flew

After the Paccar takeover you could have a Foden with Rolls, Cummins or Cat. The Cats weren’t popular over here. They also started offering ally crossmembers and cable gear linkage, which worked on Oz or the US where you had long straight roads, but over here was an unmitigated pain as they quickly went out of adjustment with continual gear changing.I know of a foden tractor unit stretched to a 6wheeler that could shift for a lorryPossibly a 420 Cummins?
Very nice but too dear for me . That price highlights what a good deal the original wasIt's a lot more money than the original
