MPG for an 18t lorry

I am sure someone in here will know.

Finding it hard to get any specs for an Iveco 180e25 from 2008.

Roughly what sort of mpg can I expect empty and with a light load of around 3t (plus the hiab)?

Will look at down plating once the build is complete to reduce RFL & insurance rather than looking at maxing out a 10-12 tonner.

Wouldn't down plating reduce axle weights so make it rubbish for hiab as front axle would be over weight

Can leave axles wrights as is I think. Some of the Renault 8 wheelers have axle weights combining to 55tonnes.

And if mpg is important wouldn't the smallest chassis available be better. Smaller lighter chassis also smaller lighter cab so better aero dynamics.

If you want extra capacity 14-16t will still run a smaller cab and smaller components.

Obviously hiab size depends but an Isuzu 11t with 8tm crane should still be running around 5t unladen

My merc 1829 is doing about 25l per 100km or 11MPG in the sort of conditions you describe.
Sounds thirsty but when you consider a 7.5t with 2.8t payload does 16mpg its a no brainer.

I think it's an optimistic truck. It also said that last week when it was persisting it down that it was 26.5deg c out side.

From memory, when I had a 18t, it used to average 14mph, mix of work, weights, and some hiab use.

Lorry milage is really fickle though.
Tyre choice can make 1mpg difference gearbox can make a couple.
Supposedly the fold flat ramps on low loaders can make up to 4-5mpg difference when running empty. Even those new camera mirrors are meant to help.

7.5 mpg here on a good day has been as low as 6mpg at times, alot depends on the work the truck is doing and the roads you are on.

Daf 14 tonner 220hp loaded getting 10.8 mpg.

I used to drive a foden 4525 double drive for my dad with a 14 litre cat in & moving crane weights from ainscoughs in hays to london at 150 ton gross it used to use gallons per mile

Perhaps my memory doesn’t serve me as well as I thought!! I did rather plod around!! And it didn’t have any of this modern euro emissions crap on it!!

Bast**d on fuel if yours has hiab I’d say nearer or over 10 ton.. 6 Speed box will likly miss in 2nd and be a bit*h to get into reverse and the comfort is non existent…

Haha exactly the same experience I've had.
Also the heating is completely hit and miss. And best of all keep fit windows.

Yea lol they are interesting the driver door opens when you go over a good bump by that I mean a gulley cover on a road lol and ours has recently been giving a lot of electrical bother and coolant problems and air problems.. but all in all a good bus lol haha
