It’s not a 50 year thing, these same fairy stories were doing the rounds over a hundred years ago. It was the same type of fear-mongering bullshit that led to the pogroms of the 1930’s and all of the genocides that followed. Bill Gates and Elon Musk haven’t managed to get a microchip into anyone’s head or bloodstream, and a lot of our grandparents would have been glad to be oppressed into the freedom and financial security that we’ve got.

I merely commented that these erks have been dabbling for nigh on 50 years .. nothing about cycles .... simply that the likes of Gates, Schwab, etc. are nothing new. My point was that money talks and in these cases it is unduly influencing and controlling the way in which everyone's lives are affected, by unelected, isolated individuals with nothing but their own agendas to achieve ....... and they should never be in a position to influence control the way that countries are governed ........ but they damned well are

How is Klaus Schwab controlling my life? I’m being affected more by a cartel of oil producers, an incompetent chancellor of the exchequer, a warmongering Russian president and a mismanaged NHS. Plus a village shop and pub that’s trying to recoup two years of poor trading conditions in six months.

It's grand, but when you look at it all the chances are all are actually being prodded along by the likes of the WEF bar perhaps your village pub and shop.

I do wonder if Kwasi would be out on his arse if the Media had come along with a different tone..... It'd seem that many didn't have a problem/actually liked his suggestions..... But the Bankers who are the ones ultimately making millions off turbulent markets.

I think you need to look at the total tax taken rather than just one rate of tax in isolation.

Why? Bob’s comment was about corporate tax. But if you want to look at top rate income tax and VAT and roll it all up between European countries, we’re still far from the highest taxed. Some countries have lower tax free thresholds, some start at higher rates of income tax than we do.

Indeed it was!! I missed the company bit!!
I would still argue that the point is still valid. I have no idea what NI the companies pay in different countries or what business rates they pay.
What is quite clear to me though is what is a gradual creep up of the tax take across the board.
I have never believed in big tax big state mentality. The more they take the more they spend unwisely!!
At least Hunt has taken a view that the Energy help is only until April next year. Until of course we get there and it is extended or amended. Helping all is not what the state should be doing. And this mess is what helping all has created.

I've got to be honest, for me we shouldn't be helping full stop with energy..... Nor travel, not anything really bar basic food, healthcare and education to literate standards.

Beyond that your on your own..... Want shelter, transport and heat.... Go graft for it. Oh and by food and water, I mean free showers, water fountains and toilets... An walk in kitchens where you give your ID and get a free basic meal...... Like porridge, toast, perhaps some form of basic meat or stew in the evening.

We shouldn't be funding able bodied people's existence......

And if I'm going to be really extreme, form a new branch of the services for disaster relief and global aid projects with similar theory's to the merchant navy..... No job no hope? Go work for a cause that can teach you something whilst you positively impact the world.

They have/had something similar in the States, the Job Corps based in-country (George Foreman was a member as a teenager) and the Peace Corps for overseas work. X 2 wishing we had something similar.

I couldn't agree more, it would be tricky to manage as the likes of pubs/bar/restaurants who use a lot of electricity/gas and can only charge so much for food and drink may be some of the few who will suffer from no energy support unless there was a capped price (which would have to be government funded). I think you are right about the vast majority though, who really if they are struggling need to change their priorities. I can't believe how many people cannot understand that by getting a handout it doesn't come from nowhere we all end up paying it back at some point. So better not having government support unless desperately needed and it should be a bare minimum service that encourages people to find alternatives. The problem you have is the people in charge whichever party it may be don't want to commit political suicide, hence not cutting back support and totally reforming the current system. It would vastly help if the government weren't running the system to benefit themselves and their elite friends...

Slippery slope...energy help...what next free Netflix...FFS.
Local timber framing outfit took a new lad on.
At mid morning break he was getting his coat on...where you going. Sod this work lark I'm better off on benefits with my mum.
I know lads with one leg missing that put in a hard day's graft better than this whole disability waving a walking stick society.
Able bodied ...you work like the rest of society.
Folk of the earlier hard times must be laughing their socks off.
