Was it FP McCann donated the 61 or was it Alan Bridgham?Awesome thanks. Decent enough bunch to donate the 61![]()
Good point , I just heard it the quarry. Was it FP McCann donated the 61 or was it Alan Bridgham?
both the wrong side of 60 t without the front ends on 'em .... and wiiide .. could be as much as 4.4m on the NCKOh and one for @doobin
Hey that's really interesting thanks . Was chatting to old fella yesterday about them been brought over.. Do you know if they did much disassembly to ship them over?
Thought that. Someone reckoned the 61 was 90t ish.both the wrong side of 60 t without the front ends on 'em .... and wiiide .. could be as much as 4.4m on the NCK
used to be a 110 in Trefil Quarry, not far from here ..... can remember clambering around it as a youngster ... hadn't been used in some time and had a gert cable from a sledge mounted tranny and switch gear, with an even bigger cable feeding that ... that's maybe 55 years agoThought that. Wtf the 110 must be. Still just parked up but it's a monster
200tjust found this in a Vertikal/C&A article
"The 200 tonne 110-RB is the
biggest machine at Threlkeld.
Donated by Castle Cement it is
currently being re-assembled...
.... Biggest of them all
though is a 110-RB electric mining
shovel, in the process of being
re-assembled following its move
from the Castle Cement quarry
near Clitheroe. "
was reading somewhere earlier that the number on the RB,s is not their weight but denotes their std digging bucket's capacity in cubic feet ?200t![]()
I'm sure there's a sledge genny with the 110 at Threlkeld. As for the cable it was lying along the side of the road beside it but I'm sure there's quite a lot of it gone missing. I think the long term plan is to put a truck engine in the back of the 110 running a genny so it's all contained on board, won't run near full capacity obvs but doesn't need to. I think they are struggling to find anyone to weigh up the electrics side of it, there may even be a fault with it or just from a safety aspect it needs looking at but they can't find anyone who will take it on.used to be a 110 in Trefil Quarry, not far from here ..... can remember clambering around it as a youngster ... hadn't been used in some time and had a gert cable from a sledge mounted tranny and switch gear, with an even bigger cable feeding that ... that's maybe 55 years ago
not certain, but this may be it?

got cut up for scrap, I was told

at 3.3Kv, you'd wanna know EXACTLY what you were aboutI'm sure there's a sledge genny with the 110 at Threlkeld. It's maybe same sledge setup up there but I'm not sure tbh and don't know how they got it to where its at either. I think the biggest issue is cost and how much stuff will have to be changed to make it even remotely workable. And yeah bet the missing bits of cable were a few quid scrapat 3.3Kv, you'd wanna know EXACTLY what you were about
the sledge in Trefil had a tranny and switch gear on board to take it down from 11Kv from the substation supplying it ..... knowing the size of Trefil and where it was, when I saw it as a kid, it must've dragged a good 1/2 mile of cable around, if not more .... was like yer arm![]()
the motors in it were huge and to try to replace them with lower voltage units, would be nigh on impossible, as they'd need to be 'scaled up' in some order. The cost of their own sub station to run it as it was intended'd be massive. It's maybe same sledge setup up there but I'm not sure tbh and don't know how they got it to where its at either. It'll never need to actually work again tbh as there is no work up there for it. I think it's probably a case of it was donated to them and they either took it or it got scrapped and it's probably too costly or too much hassle to do owt with it if truth be told. I think it might be the dream of a few up there to make it 'move' again but i think the fact it's sat where it's at for what must be min 15 years now says enough.the motors in it were huge and to try to replace them with lower voltage units, would be nigh on impossible, as they'd need to be 'scaled up' in some order. donkey/slave motors running up the originals'd get the machinery moving and the inertia in the originals might provide sufficient energy for careful, basic movements, but doubt it'd ever be capable of 'work' again without a proper 11Kv/3.3kv supply.![]()
