It’s what I do!
From my point of view, repairing and servicing them, the Stihl products are built better, parts are designed better and stronger.
What was the priceI thought great untill I saw the price!! Crike could buy a 2 new Stihl 410s for that and have change.
My saws are ex hire bought from auction so are legit but yes they require a bit of fixing up.Second hand petrol saws are usually either knackered or nicked though.

Secondhand tools are not as convient as buying new obviously but i think they make more sense than buying cheap chinese rubbish.
Of all my secondhand tools the one thats given me the most grief so far is a 10kg breaker. Even so it still owes me less than half of what a new one costs and has way more power and less vibes that a chinese special.
£1400 or soWhat was the price
thought I saw a link last night saying 1900+ plus VAT?£1400 or so
Yes that is how I see it. I don't use them alot at all but £500-600 divided over 10 years is still cheap even if only used a few times a year and hopefully very little hassle involved, starts when you need it/know the history etc.I've been down the second hand fixer upper saw route having inherited old lads partner saws and then given a few for spares/repair by others. It's nice to swap a few bits between/fit a few chinese spares and have 40/50 quid in a saw rather than 500 and I've got away like that for 10 years. Best thing I've ever done was buy a brand new husky (having had partners its what you get used to as much as anything) the knowledge that you don't need to start it when you get it out the shed so you don't get to work and find out it wont go and the minimal vibration is well worth it imho.
A brand new saw looked after and ran on correct mixture will last you years, a cheap second hand is only one problem away from not being worth fixing.
that's quite an annual running cost aside from the inevitable battery replacementsI’ve had the new battery stihl for a year. TSA 230.
Works really well, literally my go to for everything bar cutting up thick concrete. With two batteries and charger it was around £700
Big but.... already been back with a knackered motor (within the year warranty for pro users)and the guy from TFM said most had come back and the cost of anew motor was £250...
So there’s been no motor redesign, they fitted the same one again... do they test this stuff before production?
It was down to dust ingress obviously, but most of the cutting we did was with water feed for natural stone and porcelain paving.
Now I suppose I have to break it again within the year (new motor gets another years warranty) or fork out myself when it inevitably fails again.
Summary... great tool, needs new motor each year...
oh and each battery lasts about 10-15 mins average cutting time. That’s better than it sounds. Each battery takes about 20/30mins to charge
Just what I was going to say. Ok if from a known source but tbh the petrol saws can be purchased new fairly reasonably.Second hand petrol saws are usually either knackered or nicked though.
I thought Dolmar tbh which is what the Makitas are/were. I don't know if Makita bought dolmar or just that dolmar made blue saws for makita but seeing the wacker makes me think the latter. It's why it's either husky or stihl for me (husky tbh) as they make their own saws and have actually added to them over the last 15 years rather than stagnate like others.Looks like a Partner/husky![]()
Yeah, it’s a real shame as for brickwork, drainage, paving it’s so much quicker, less dusty and the big one…. Quieterthat's quite an annual running cost aside from the inevitable battery replacements![]()
