A basic machine mount laser receiver would be fine for that sort of work. You could alwasy look at full guidance too but much more money.

Dig the ground off level first then dig foundation to a set depth on your bucket/side of boom. Still need a lazer at somepoint.

... where ever you point the boom it'll be level .. a good eye is no match for a bullseye

Foundation for billy is a big flat area that they then shutter for strip foundations then pour concrete. We dig ours into the ground then pour concrete into them.
What I do is level it check it etc get it to where it needs to be for grade then follow it through try keep it on grade little high if I can then check with laser and clean up.
Magnetic mount is handy though for roughing it out

As a beginner, I thought I was cheating with a level - I feel better now!bullseye bubble on your king post pin top
This one is magnetic and the lip on one edge keeps it perfectly aligned on the window frame.

get it level, N to S and E to West and it's a lot easier to improve ... frustrating when the pull from off the centre line is never as good as on centreOh I get it, it's just my skills aren't yet good enough for the for-aft axis to make any difference

The ones your dig are bloody fun looking! i think our foundations are the same, but we have to form ours, as you say! even a big underground foundation must be completely excavated out, formed, poured, than backfilled. I don't mind the extra excavating work though!

Have you got gripper on huddig build a base station type thing heavy bottomed plate with pole for laser that you can easily grab then it’s like having a grade man with a staff but you just move it with gripper give you and idea if high or low etc

Funny you should say that, my little doosans cab frame, centre bar in the split screen and centre pin all read different on the bubbleking pin top's the place to get level though

the cab is not necessarily mounted on exactly the same plane as the ring gear/king pin's axis ... as I say the top of the king pin is what needs to be leveled to ensure that that is perfectly upright

just wasn't getting used, since buying the duck ... and missus was adamant .. one out, one in .. wanted a smaller tracked 360 for some things.
sad to see it go though .. has done some work for me and'd take some replacing, condition-wise for the money.

We've fitted a fair few on backhoe's and they work well. It still monitors swing left & right for single or dual slopes.
The only compromise is we set it with 2 machine profiles. One with dipper retracted and one extended
