Lifton/Neuson 1001 Dumper won’t move …

Dear esteemed mechanics and hydraulic experts
I have a 2005 Lifton Lifton/Neuson 1001 1-ton high tip dumper Serial No BB001263 that suddenly won’t move forward or reverse. It starts fine and all other hydraulic equipment works, just no forward nor reverse.
I’ve completely dismantled the control lever on the steering arm and that’s all OK and I’ve checked the fuse box area, but only briefly.
As the machine is a fair distance from home, I want to return with a complete checklist of possible causes and their respective remedies.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
If anyone has workshop literature pertaining to this vehicle, I’d be very grateful to hear from you.
I consider myself competent but have little knowledge or experience of hydraulics.
Kind regards

Hi Ross
Thank you for your reply.
It's not the handbrake as I had to move it by letting the handbrake off for it to move (slowly) downhill.
Also, previously if I attempted to move it with the handbrake on the whole thing flexed under pressure.
I'm guessing it's an electrical solenoid, or something like that, that's not operating therefore allowing hydraulic oil to flow.
That makes it sound like I know what I'm talking about, but I don't, and don't know where to look yet!

for both forward and reverse to die on you, I would guess your supply to your F/R switch is U/s ... try running a jumper direct from the battery either to the switch or a solenoid

How are you starting the dumper, via it's own battery or are you having to jump start it?

We once had a 6t thwaites that had to be jumped.... about half way through the day it stopped Fwd/Rvs..... transpired reminants of battery had finally choosen to go flat, thus not giving enough current to run the solenoid valves.

Hi JD450A
Thanks for your input.
I replaced the dumper's battery some time ago, so it starts on its own battery no problem.
That said, after reading your reply, I'll take a jump starter with me when I go to it next time to see if there's a problem there.

Thank you for your input doobin, it sounds hopeful.
Can you tell me roughly where the solenoid is located please?
Is it in the electrical/fuse box area or located on the machinery/hydraulic lines somewhere else?
Thanks in advance.

Will be on the torque convertor. A feed each side to do FW or R. Trace these back, and they should go to the switch. Most likely as Druid says, no power to switch. Test the switch feed with a multimeter. If none then run a temporary wire from positive terminal to switch feed- switch should then send this power to the solenoid either FW or R side.

That's exactly what I needed to hear doobin, thank you very much.

Thank you also V8Druid; I didn't fully understand what you were saying but it's all clear now.

You guys are great. Thanks. If it wasn't for the fact I live in the middle of nowhere in central France I'd buy you beers!

Recently had a dumper where the rubber cover on the end of the forward/reverse lever perished and fell out along with the horn button. Rain went down inside the lever and caused problems. Sometimes it was no drive and at other times it would be in forward only or reverse only. The position of the lever made little difference.
We sprayed WD40 down the centre and put a plastic bag over it until the replacement lever could be fitted.

Hi mintsauce. Thank you for your contribution.
I've completely dismantled the steering column switch and all is fine.
I'm going with V8Druid and doobin's suggestion and will get to test it tomorrow.

Dear esteemed mechanics and hydraulic experts
UPDATE: I did exactly as suggested and supplied 12 v directly to the switch and it worked.
You guys rock!
Thank you very much!
Now I've got it home I'll clean it and trace the wiring and get it fixed properly.

To all contributing to this helpful forum,

2 years later, found this thread and it was exactly the problem I was having with my 1ton hi lift Wacker Neuson. No forward movement, but had reverse and all other hydraulic operations. I had to jump the dumper, but didn't realise how flat the battery actually was. A recharge sorted it and now runs like a dream. Good to know for the future.

Thanks all.

It’s what I do!
If I remember the 1001 has a throttle pedal switch, won’t move anywhere unless the switch excites the drive pump valve solenoids, the throttle will still give revs but if switch not working it won’t drive.

This is the ls750 the older one with no solenoids well except for the starter one
