Which oil?

Ive just bought a little micro digger. I know nothing about machines. I think I need 15w40 engine oil and 46 hydraulic.

How am I meant to pick an oil. They all have somehting different written on them. Is there just a standard middle of the road engine and hydraulic oil I can buy.

I googled and found westway oil with what looks like the right stuff??

Do I need any other type of oil?

Any help appreciated thanks.

You need Blue oil, being a Smurf :ROFLMAO:
Look up your Make and model of machine. Get a Manual for it, inside it will tell you the Grades required.
If you tell us the make and model a member might have a identical machine and be able to help.

yeah, it can be fun deciphering the marketing speak from the real info.

As it happens, I use 15W-40, but then I live in a hot climate.
10W-30 or 10W-40 may be more suitable for your temp range, but as above, find the manual and see what the manufacturer has to say. Then get the engine manual and see if they agree.

Same deal with the hydraulic oil, but make an allowance for how you use the machine - if you only use it for 20min sessions, go to the lighter end of what's recommended. If you put in a few hours at a time, you'll want it a bit heavier.

morris oils do an online oil checker "what oil do i need" or something like that, i have used it a few times and found what i needed.

Thanks for the replies. It's a Wacker Neuson 803

Found a manual online for it.

Theres a yanmar engine in there.

The Morris thing looks handy. Says I need transmission oil as well. How many oils can one digger take. Jeez

be thankful it's not a duck running bio-oils :rolleyes:

you'd also be well advised to change the transmission oils too ... need regular changes to avoid catastrophes

Transmission oil will be for track drive motors I expect, just a gear oil I would think.

Yup, any 15/40 for the engine, any hydraulic 46 and any 80/90 gear oil for the final drives.

Best thing you can do right now with a secondhand unknown machine is to get the filters too and change everything. Might save a lot of pain down the line.

It’s what I do!
I didn’t think they ran a gear oil in the reduction boxes on those! Just hydraulic oil leak in and leak out! If you have the manual could you find the final drives and advise us further please😊
