Never tried recycled hardcore before, was considering it until I saw this video...its full of nail length galv wire and rebar, seems more trouble than its worth...is this the case for most of you or did the aggregates company take the piss with him?

Use a reputable aggregate firm and it will be a lot cleaner than that.
That's alright as cheap fill material although probably more expensive than 6f5 crush concrete. Day aggregates do a recycled product called ecoblend. Two versions white for fill and black for surface and it's spot on and considerably cheaper than limestone or granite.
