Socket set

Any reccomendations on a decent socket set? I've got a Halford advanced which is brilliant, apart from one thing, every time I open up the case lots of the bits are loose! It's a real pain in the butt! I see that bacho do some nice kits....

Bahco is great stuff but so is Halfords professional,made by facom I beleive.sealey stuff is also very good and got a lot of their tools in my workshop and bought them in case they got stolen but still all here and really can’t fault any of em and I certainly buy them again.

Bahco owned by snap on, the socket sets are the same as bluepoint (snap ons entry range)

Don't confuse with the adjustable spanners (which if you want to overpay for you can get with snap on name on). A lot of snap on is made by others tbh.

I have a 1/4 drive bahco set and it has a foam insert in the case so sockets don't come out unless you pull them which is really good
I have a Carolus (budget gedore) that keeps the sockets well contained
I gave up carrying blow moulded socket sets in exchange for a really decent toolbox and a decent socket rail amoungst all the other tools. The type you have to twist the socket for it to come off are best

The new socket sets are made in China, but to be fair the quality seems fine on them. Older bahco tools as well as the adjustable`s had made in Sweden cast into them
It used to be if it had snap on name it was made by them, and blue point made by others

Because the set I've got has imperial and metric it's such a faff to put them back, I the few years I've owned the set I must have spent 24 hours just putting them back in order! My dad had a set back in the day, draper, that came in an orange metal box, I was hoping there's something out there that just decent quality no mucking around.

Good stuff is Halfords Advanced. I spanner as a day job and only have a few snap-on tools mainly prybars, ratchets, aircraft (long) spanners and picks. Beyond that it's all cheaper brands like Teng, Clarke Pro, Halfords Advance and Irwin for pliers and Vice Grips.

The blow moulded cases are a real pain, mine is in two separate halves that have to be carried the correct way up. I'm going to buy some twist lock socket rails I think and spanner racks for the inside of my tool chest. Not sure you're gonna find a better solution than you've already got for the price.

Seems to me there's a gap in the market, looking on ebay there's quite a few sets, of what look like Halford advanced, and the case is in two halves! Considering there is a lifetime guarantee on the contents it's a shame the cases are so poor.

Personal opinion, you can't beat metal rails for sockets and loose spanners in a Ammunition box for breakdowns.

Foam insert trays for workshop stuff.

Been in similar quandary for my "truck kit"
In the end Ive gone for a decent Milwaukee box that holds impact driver with teng impact sockets on rails.
Sucker for the wera joker spanners ATM... absolutely love em.

Bergen or us pro cheap and ruddy good for the monet..Bahco as above is good kit as well with tougher cases than some imo.some crazy prices on Amazon if you keep your eye out.

Halfords stuff is hard to beat for the cost, guarantee is excellent and most stores carry stick for replacements and open till late.
You can buy new boxes but only for the later kits, the hinges snapped on mine but they don't do the case for it anymore, I could buy the newer case but I just make do holding it together with a finger as I pick it up

Bang on.... BUT don't buy the s**t rough chrome spanners..... They used to do those and the shiny chrome smooth finish in a roll with £10 difference.... they now only seem to do the better grade in Foam trays.... The rough ones snap and I almost slit my wrist open with a 19mm!

Whilst were on tool cabs ..I picked an absolute gem of a top cab ex gulf war mod job. Cheap as chips eBay and lovely
