Little Sherpa worked hard today but started playing up. Could barely load it onto the truck. Black smoke like I’ve never seen from a petrol engine before and backfiring. New plug sorted it- about 120 hours on the Honda GX390 that powers it.

Do you just drive back and for wards and jiggle it on the top link or does it move hydraulically

I found it easiest to operate it from the side, using the hydrostatic pedal and the linkage. Much better view

To be fair the top link wasn’t used when grinding. Handy on the flail collector though.

Runs it well, obviously you just take care not to bite too much. Stalled it twice.

Yeah, I like to go forward a bit, back a bit to clean the grindings then drop it down a bit and forward again. Still getting my eye in.

Obviously nowhere near as good as a 50hp dedicated swivel head tracked grinder, but at less than £2k for the attachment it’ll pay it’s way just fine. Those two stumps were £320 plus vat and took me two and a half hours from loading to unloading at the yard.

Yup, she’s just had her 50 hour service.

All I need now is the mid mount and the weight pack. Useless fuckers, I ordered this in June last year and got the tractor January. Still waiting for the rest

Wonder if weights are like the smaller ones? Mates bx they crap...can't leave em on in trailer they bounce off . Bloody glad I had the dropsides on

Yeh its a bit wobbly but with careful driving its not too bad. There's not really a better way to do it when the tree is being lowered below what the forks will go. And since they are all coming back out again at the end of next week, we leave the straps in so they can be lifted out easily. The biggest one I put in this year was over 7 ton! Monsters!

This one is rumoured to have a budget around £300k. We haven't used a single bag on concrete on this build so its about as sustainable as you can get for a garden that's been made for a 4 day show... Plenty of others still pouring lorry loads of concrete for their gardens - all to be broken up in 2 weeks. But it makes so much money, the environmental policy is more lip service rather than taken seriously.
Its coming up your way later this month. After packing it all back on a lorry, I've got to head up to the national forest near Swadlincote to unload it all again where it will live out its days.

And yes, you can rent trees, the last one I did at Hampton court had rented trees in it. But these ones were bought from Germany I believe, so they've made some journey to get here.
