Hi folks, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction here. Changing the transmission oil in the dumper soon as I seem to have had some water contamination/ingress from the gearstick gator. The dumper in question is a Barford SXR700 2001 and wondered if anyone cold suggest what type of oil I should use? Was planning to use a basic transmission fluid/oil but not quite sure. It has a clutch with 4 gears and a shuttle lever for forward/reverse.

Cheers

shuttle will be a separate box and do you have a clutch or a knock out pedal for the shuttle/torque converter ?

Don’t these have JCB boxes in them? And there’s probably more info online about JCBs than barfords so might be a better google

yeah think you are right, just discovered the oil cooler has been leaking a lot of water into the gearbox forming a lovely creamy consistency similar to what you might put over your strawberries....
on searching oil coolers for Barford all that comes up is JCB part no’s for the same cooler, learnt something new today.

cheers guys;)(y)

Ok next question, need to flush the transmission, what would anyone suggest to use, thinking, fill it with diesel, then leaving it to drain out for a couple of days, either that or sacrifice some fluid, run it then drain and refill with fresh ATF?

There’s always something needing bloody attention.....

DON'T PUT DIESEL NEAR IT😯
replace the cooler, replace the oil with fresh oil and it will be fine.... you could change the oil again in a week or two if you wanted to be real sure👍

It will be sitting draining until next weekend so hopefully most of the sludge should find its way out .....

Give it half a liter of clean oil while the drain plug is out.
That'll flush the sludge / emulsion sitting at the bottom of the box.
