Weird bucket attachments points

So all the American Kubotas seem to have this weird attachment system, does anyone know why?

Does it have any advantage over pins, would seem to be disadvantages like chaining them up to move them hooking a tooth through pin or forklift can’t reverse them for face shovel jobs

I think we’d have been a lot better to have done what the scandis did and standardise it to s system years ago would make buying used attachments or hiring them a lot easier

Think they are called klac hitches. Some of the utilities gangs have them fitted

The klacs gave greatly reduced build height but meant you couldn’t spin the bucket round to underpin etc.
I had one on a u48-4 years ago... worked well but the catch plates to weld to bare buckets were very expensive.
Other plus was only one trip out of the cab to change buckets as the next clicked in under the bucket weight.

I assumed they are no more as no safety pin/secondary catch.

the hook fits onto a large boss and the rear has a through pin ... seems a pretty std-ish fir in the States

Klak has a pair of hooks at front and a latch/hook at the rear, much like a drop latch on an old style door/gate, sprung shut

and a specially shaped 'spanner' to release the latch

They were a popular fit on all the Kubs/hire mc.s round here, 30 odd years ago and weren't a bad thing to use ..... not seen one in a long time though

Its a much simpler design than the one shown above, the Mecalac CONNECT is 2 opposing hooks on the buckets, there is then a cylinder between the dipper end and bucket link, very compact and light:

Does the dipper pin rotate in bushes in the end of the dipper, or does the bucket rotate around a fixed pin?

The pins rotate in bushes within the dipper/bucket link.

Its a great system as a standard quick hitch, they have recently added it to the top and bottom of a tiltrotator and I am not so convinced in that application as the stack height is 80mm ish taller than a typical S45 setup and the bucket top is also taller.
