You can make your own on GoDaddy and the like, but really you need a professional to do all the stuff in the background

100%. Most people when searching for services won't go beyond the 1st page of websites so worth having someone who knows what they're doing to help with ranking etc.
I guess it's handy to have a website as a point of reference but seems like many business just use Facebook and the like now. Easy to keep up to date and keeps it on your customers minds eye. Its not for me but I can see why many do Facebook now.
