Towing electrics question

All 12v are wanky when compared to 24v kit. How they cannot manage to even get close in quality is beyond me.

'cos they're mostly cheap sh1t ... even the ali bodied ones still have crap inserts that corrode badly and rapidly

The adapters?
Last one I used was dead from new.
Pulled it apart and the wires used were so fine it's doubtful they'd carry enough current and two had been sheared when the screws were tightened.
Screws bearing directly on multi-strand wires are exactly why trailer wiring is unreliable

Bootlace ferrules pretty well solve the problem

the 'real' crimping tool does a nice job, but I've never bothered - they work well just giving them a squeeze with pliers.

Makes a big difference the real tool though especially in tight connectors . And plenty of cheap copies about now rather than £120 from knipex

got a set and work really well for the amount i use them

I started to convert all my vans to 13pin then my engineer who looks after all my trailers converted them all to 7 pin as he says they are easier to fix and more reliable.. FML. Now I have 4 trailers on 7 pin and just one van on 13..

If they are new ish trailers his meddling could put you at risk of a fine for C&U offences.
New trailers come with reverse lights.
If fitted they must work IF towed by a vehicle newer than if i remember right 2014.

I also use a lot of these blades for any screw down connections ... makes a really good connection and can double them over to fill the hole in short / shallow depth receptacles

I've also used a lot of that type.
I like the bootlace variety because you can get them in the correct size to suit the cable.
Also, each size is available in different colours so can be used for identification (if you are prepared to carry the extended inventory).

I buy them out of china where 1000 costs the same as 25 locally.

it's a 16 way + earth, 16A plug/skt. trying to recall the Eu manufacturer, but that there'd be about 100 quid from RS ... found these yingtongs on Ebay and TBH they're a perfect copy (I have an Eu made one to compare to) and interchange with the Eu ones

that's the box and ref. no it arrived in.

The genset I bought used one as part of its cabin set up. I'm hoping to wire one up to act as a key. Ie if you've not got the fly lead you can't start it.

Off it I'll just have a switch box for run, crank, heat and solenoid feed.

although ying tong, I was happy with the build quality ... were 23 quid last December ..... I'd like a clip on cover for the lead, like i have on the 'Drema's VA-r socket, but can't justify (to myself) the 37 quid RS want for one plus P&P
oh and delivery on that socket was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster than they said it would be -- IIRC about 5 days -- was shocked - was expecting weeks
