Hi guys it here Jim I live in Western Australia (Perth
I been in the planning stage for the last 12 months trying to work out what the best system to run a Tiltrotator on a 1.9 ton mini Excavator, I would like to have a hydraulic twin hitch system on EC02B but our mini Excavators all come out with a Canopy this where I need some help with trying to find a way to waterproof to joysticks I’am looking at a ET20 Wacker Neuson with a short arm 4 hydraulic lines with full Proportionally Control ( I would like to have the DC2 system but it not recommended so my other Choices are SS9 or SSO if someone else know of a other brand of tilty or a other system I could run
I currently have a Tiltrotator (EX10 on a Hitacti 6 ton with twin hitch’s & DC2 controls

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum.

IIRC, we had an enquiry from Oz about this recently - it may have been you :)(y) Several things here:

In order to have a hydraulic twin hitch (i.e. top hitch as well) then for the top hitch you need to have an existing hitch circuit on the digger. You don't say that you have this but without it your top hitch will have to be mechanical. This is not a train smash as the tilty will spend most of its time on the digger and the times you take it off it's relatively simple on a small machine.

The WN ET20 with two proportional circuits will give you tilt and rotate but because the control systems - SS9 or DC2 (and the associated proportional joysticks that go with the latter) are not IP rated, you cannot use them in a canopied machine. I am not intimately familiar with other manufacturer's systems but believe you will have the same issues. Aiden @CPS ?

This means that you are limited to SS0 - tilt and rotate provided by the existing WN proportional joysticks (which I'm presuming for the sake of this argument to be IP rated). The bottom hitch functionality (as in automatic quick hitch) is not present because you need the higher level control systems to provide this.

Basically, in a canopied machine, your control systems and surfaces must be IP rated. Engcon's DC2 and SS9 controllers and the MIG2 joysticks are not nor, I am given to understand, are the Volvo L8s we sometimes supply.

All of this being said, it's not all doom and gloom. If you can get the ET20 spec'd with two prop circuits and a hitch circuit (something I know is possible on the ET27) then you can put a mechanical top hitch on and run the tilt, rotate and (bottom) hitch circuits as long as you spec the tilty with an auto quick hitch and a swivel. The ET27 we ran at Plantworx was a tidy little unit and handled SSO very well.

I’ve got a Rototilt on a 4 hose Takeuchi that runs on just the original excavator’s joysticks/controls. It uses proportional rocker switches in the factory joysticks and a spare button on the joystick toggles between tilt and aux service (usually grab). There is a small electronic box that makes the magic happen, and a couple of rocker switches (one to power the magic box up, and the other to operate the lower quick-hitch).
My machine has a cab but I can’t see any reason why this setup wouldn’t work on a canopy machine providing the magic box was located somewhere dry, and the two rocker switches replaced with something waterproof. This would rely on your base machine having waterproof joysticks fitted with proportional rocker switches from the factory though.

stick it all in an IP66 enclosure ... job did
