Sometime smaller is better. Had a few inches on either side and had to dig a few inches lower so the canopy would clear the eave on the garage. In addition to the stumps I hauled I a took 30ish 36" heaping buckets of wet clay to level the back yard and lower an area for a concrete pad in the front.
