Terex MBR71 ped roller

Got a ped roller a benford / terex MBR71 worked perfectly then one day just started pissing oil everywhere. Knocked it off and took it back to the yard today and stripped the engine off and had a look at first glance there was nothing suspicious anywhere and no obvious damage but as I pulled the dipstick out there was a lot of resistance and when it eventually came out oil splatted everywhere so drained the oil out and approx 3.5 4l came out then I’ve changed the oil filter and put fresh oil in but it’s took less than 1 1/2L and it runs perfect with no leaks and once it’d been run up pulled the dipstick out and came out normal the oil was really thin but didn’t smell of diesel alls I am confused about basically is the roller has worked perfect for 18 months then all of a sudden put loads of oil out and now it’s back to normal any ideas how the oil nearly tripled with no reason as to why it’s a hatz diesel engine

had to be fuel ... can't see what else it could've been unless some tw*t'd filled it to bursting ?

That’s exactly what I think but there’s no smell of fuel or anything in oil, the oil was long overdue to be changed it was jet black and came out like water. Think I’ll just have to keep using it and see what happens with the oil capacity and if needs be investigate again

so little in one of them and not directly coupled .. flexi joint between the motor and the hydrostatic drive box, if it's the same set up as mine

That’s what I was going to suggest - I’ve heard of it happening on a chipper with an engine driven pump that leaked.

yeh, but unless the pump is physically attached to the motor's crank case / timing case / whatever - it can't ..... if this one has a pump on for a breaker to run off then it'd be a fair bet .. mine doesn't have that luxury

do you have an aux. hyd. outlets for a breaker Jack? if yes look at the oil level for that and see where the pump is attached to the engine?

It is the same setup mine is as you’ve described stripped the engine off and all the hydraulics off then steam cleaned everything to start from a fresh slate I’ve serviced the engine and it’s running sweet as a nut just can’t figure out how the oil has tripled its quantity with nothing else mixed in put it back together today and topped all the fluids up and found a leak coming from the tank so getting that repaired then hopefully it’ll run and so it’s job

probably unburnt fuel accumulating in the sump .. not exactly hi tech fuel injection systems on them ... needs more regular oil changes Jack, as Mick says

On the early model the exhaust had a straight up pipe without rain cover or bend, I quite often found them full to the top with water! I guess yours has bend?

I haven’t really had it that long so never checked it just used it but ordered a service kit so I’ll just do it annually now to keep and top of it and yes it’s got the curved pipe

I’ve changed the oil and run the engine and it’s sweet as a nut so ordered a service kit long overdue the oils viscosity was that thin you’d think it was water so service it then keep on top of it just need to fix the hydraulic oil tank now seems to be dripping from the edges so going to get the insides welded and hopefully that’ll fix that

If you can see where the hydraulic tank is weeping from then try resimac 104xf. Designed for these sort of jobs.

The tanks been welded the past and they’ve cracked and that’s where it’s dripping from where do you get that stuff at? Will motor factors have it in ?
