Takeuchi TB225 - looking for advice

Good Day,

Have a lead for a great deal on a like new TB225. Was looking for an excavator in the 1.5t to 3t range for work on my property and some light road maintenance.

Are these good reliable machines? Wondering what everyone thinks of this model.

I've read that they're an odd model, weight and width wise - but still think it could be a decent machine.

Work wise mostly trenching water/waste lines, digging up small boulders, maybe run a small flail mower.

I'd appreciate your feedback on this model.

Thank you

I’m not a fan. But a mate has just bought one.

Expanding tracks seem silly- it doesn’t shrink nearly as tight as a 1.9t. And if the gap is over a metre then odds are you’ve removed a fence panel or similar and can get a proper 2.7t in. The expanding tracks are also severely lacking in ground clearance compared to a proper x frame on a 2.7t.

The ground clearance is a factor for sure. Not sure it'll matter in my case but still. Also looking at bigger models however price is obviously a consideration especially for a personal use machine.

How are the controls/hydraulics compared to other units?

Takeuchi are normally pretty smooth. Only TB225 I've driven was ruined by having an S40 Engcon and gripper with oversized bucket on the end of it so couldn't really tell.

There are some good deals secondhand currently. What money are they asking for the TB225, how many hours?

I've spent a week on one. I mean they're good if you want a towable machine with space for attachments and stay legal (although see your in canada so wouldn't have thought restricted like we are in UK?) but as Doobin says the expanding tracks are a bit naff really on that model.
Reliability wise though i doubt you will beat takeuchi in that department.

Poster is Canadian fyi

Takeuchi are good reliable machines, smooth hydraulics but bit Russian tractor feel in the cabs or least my tb180fr is but it’s 2012 machine

It’ll do you proud and if it’s well looked after even better

Unlikely it’ll track and flail at same time but can work in arcs

Yes folks tow 3.5t units behind 1/2 ton trucks over here.
