Takeuchi TB016 fuel sight gauge

Hi there.
My fuel gauge is stuck. It's just a floater in a hose. How does that happen? Can the little floater swell? Have you ever cleaned it out and replaced? Asked two different parts suppliers, one wants 10.30 Au$ the other $75

Can you use up the fuel. Take the hose off and give a poke with a pipe cleaner or something. It's a system the Romans designed so doubt it will take much to fix

take the float out completely ... can see the fuel in the hose , unless it's a really old piece of hose, then replace at the same time
it's more likely the hose bore has reduced due to it swelling

Thats 1 of the few things that does my head in, not it sticking the fact it discoloured and you can't see fuel from the seat

my oil sight gauge on the 'Drema is impossible to read and I dip it from the filler to be sure it has sufficient in there

Ha ha ... yes, all good comments. This explains why there was a stick under the seat when I bought the machine.
I asked two suppliers for the parts required to replace the "gauge" ... namely a short run of clear fuel hose, a floater and two clamps.
Asked more as an exercise in testing my local Takeuchi reps.
Have to say they failed abysmally.
One quoted $10.30. On further enquiry this was for the little floater only. The hose was later quoted $80 for 2 meters, and 6 weeks wait. The other "supplier" was not better. First quoted for the sight gauge for hydraulic tank, then rectified to almost $90 for the lot and 3 weeks wait.
What a joke.
Goes without saying that I will replace the hose with clear fuel line, the floater can probably be cleaned with acetone or replace by a stick of wood.

Forgot to say that one of them rang after I sent the email request and asked me how to spell Takeuchi ... no, I kid you not. And it was not the chick on the phone it was the salesman.

I've had my tb108 for over ten years, always thought it odd not to have a fuel gauge. It was only when I took the covers off a few weeks back I saw the tube that's behind the rear panel. Should have read the manual I suppose.
