Gate with wheel at the hinge end. Can't way it up
I wouldn't think so, its proper old with plenty of detail in it. Blacksmith made.Surely been a modification at some point![]()
Yrs but why. I can imagine on a country house surounded by stone. With a track cut in the stone with a bit of metal in it for the wheel to run in. A lot of work.Bad to see in the photo - but isnt it just to carry the weight and roll round ??
Nice old gate
Possibly. Do you mean because of the latch or the wheelWondering if it was originally on the end of a gravel drive on a slope from the road and there was an iron sector to kick the end of the gate up to give clearance when open
Think your right Graham. Someone give it me a long time ago. I had to build my big shed before i could hang itthat is a beautiful find Dylan ..... QUALITY ... I'd say you're on the money with a quadrant track for it to run on ... stops the bottom bearing wearing, with all the weight on it and the gate dropping
bet the old boy who made that's been dead and buried, pushing a century .... if you ever 'don't love it' anymore .. talk to me ... a thing of beauty and'll have taken weeks to makeThink your right Graham. Someone give it me a long time ago. I had to build my big shed before i could hang ityou wouldn't want it on a wooden post. It wants painting
I dare say the 'smith who made it also had to make his own forged bolts Dylan ... no fixing factors about in the days when that was madeIt has always fascinated me, the workmanship. I thought on the latch the bolts holding them on were a bit rough. I then noticed it had been moved and the holes filled with leadView attachment 14646
