I’m looking at a late 2017. Sprinter 316 . I’m quite keen on it as it can tow 3.5 tonne but it has something that is a witon compressor and 110v supply.
Is anyone familiar with this set up? Or know who would use the set up ? I’m a bit concerned that the van will of been sitting for hours and hours with the engine running to run a compressor or 110 v tools

Either utilities or mobile fitter
If it's utilities it could have spent thousands of hours idling.
If mobile fitter it may have done bugger all.

Any idea if they have an hour meter fitted ? That would give me an idea of how it had been worked

My hgv fitted mate had the same spec but in a Vw crafter. Don’t think he had any problems to speak of. Bear in mind though it all adds extra unladen weight with pto spec box, compressor and coolers etc. seem to remember with his tools and equipment he was over 3.5t! They’re handy tools if you have the need for it.

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
as i just said to Vin in a PM, 'bout his Kins ...... " I had an ex Transco LDV years ago with air and leccy on board ... driven by the engine in 4th gear .. flick a switch and the transfer box disconnected the prop and engaged the underfloor gear ... ... was a milometer on the rear hub (much like Michelin used to fit to buses - bus tyres were rented from Michy and tread mileage paid for), so could compare the speedo's odometer with the hub mileage .... was 7-ish K difference with my Transco van in 80K miles ... ask the seller what the hub reading is compared to the speedo's "
I put up a couple of pix somewhere a little while back (and had the piss taken), but was a good little van in its day and saved dragging the 7.5 out to a lot of places instead.

It never gets used noone even knows how to turn it on. It's an ex tyre fitter van so has traditional air line fittings in the back of the van. If it had the heavy duty fittings for running a breaker at the back it would get used rather than dragging a beaver pack about.
2nd gear is absolutely shot which I presume is to do with running the pto.

Might be worth leaving well alone then .

depends on how the odometer and hub drives/hr clock compare ...... can't see why they'd be running in 2nd gear ..... 4th is direct / 1:1 ratio -- 5th is over drive usually
