Selector grab rotator

Could you learned members please give me your thoughts on the holding capability of a selector grab rotator?
I’ve been using a hired in 20 tonner and the rotator on the grab is very easily overcome if holding anything unbalanced. Is it likely to be a PRV adjustment to sort it out or something more technical?

Not designed to hold, no brake in the motor. This is why tiltrotators use worm drives.

I can overcome it by hand when it’s held out open on its side if I climb/bounce on it - surely that’s not right though?

as said " Not designed to hold, no brake in the motor. " it's only a slew ring with a motor driving it, like the slew on a machine, but machines have brakes fitted .... if it's a simple rotator it's even worse

I'd say that would be the case. Not ideal for tree work at all. That's why the pros have Rototilts

I cannot believe how pony it is compared to the little Rototilt on my 6 tonner - that would genuinely outperform this piece of crap in every single way.
There’s a Tigergrip on a fixed rotator coming instead - will be interesting to see how it’s set up and how it performs.
(It isn’t my job or spec by the way, I’ve just been asked to do the work with the kit provided by the customer).

Normal on a smaller machine, possibly a larger machine too.

I have a Tigergrip on fixed rotator, and whist it will rotate slowly with a big unbalanced lump, it is more than ok for all the work I do.

Would that be so the demo guys don’t just snap it in half? They don’t really hold things in one place for long.. more smash and grab and fling it somewhere? With tree work it’s a different game..

There's big price differences between demo and sorting grapples as they are often called as we all know. Most are probably designed for sorting through a pile on the floor and probably used upright where lack of hold isn't an issue rather than used wrong way up to grab something badly weighted to one side to take it down carefully.
