Recommendations - Mini Digger required for Self build / small holding

Hi Gang,

I'm looing for some advice. We're currently planning a new build and i'm looking to buy a mini digger to use throughout the build, but also to be used on jobs maintain a small holding. I was going to look at buying post 'banger' to be mounted on out tractor, but is not very 'user friendly' and the tractor makes access to putting in fence posts quite difficult.

So my questions are what size digger /excavator (not sure on the correct lingo) would you recommend for the task below?

• Big enough to power an auger for 6/8" holes in clayish ground.
• 300meters of trenching to add water and electrical services
• General digging for footings and ground work
• Some landscaping
• Tree and hedge removals

In my head i'm look at 2-2.5t so i can still tow it. but realistically would I really benefit form a bigger than 1.5T machine

Budget is £8K (inc Vat) Are there any brands/ specs to avoid? Do I really need expanding tracks (even though i'd quite like them)? and if anyone knows of any honest machines for sale near Leicestershire Warwickshire border please let me know.

At that budget condition is more important than brand. Just stay away from anything chinsese

As others have told me.. better to buy your own attachments and hire a machine. Less fun though!
