Rake bucket tine spacing…

Hi, I’m about to order a rake bucket for my current project to prep for turf and separate the crap out of spoil.

I can’t decide between 50 and 75mm spacing. It’s to swap between a Bobcat e19 and e10.

Ground locally is quite sandy but work all over. I’m leaning towards 50mm but have any of you regretted the narrower spacing?
My thought on the 75mm is brick ends and biggish stones can still get through the tines…

Probably overthinking it as usual!

Too small you would be dragging soil along if damp

Personally I'm looking at one with 50mm for my 14 ton machine, your reasoning is right, bricks are either 63 or 75mm x 100mm

I have one which is at 75mm spacing, 50mm would be better I think if mainly rocks/rubble out of the soil- as you say a 63mm brick will get through end on. It’s a shame- an excellent attachment yet rarely actually use mine in practise- 3 times in as many years- but great for the right job

Going digbits as seems the best bang for buck.

I got a digbits version among a job lot of attachments....only used it twice in many years but great on the right job - would of got more use on the 3t or 8t.
Will put tape on it.

I paid £329+vat for 3ft Digbits one with 50mm spacing January this year, nicely made bucket

have you tried BMC in Chepstow? pretty sure what came with the new weapon is BMC -- ask @Gunners for a performance report on it

A mate just bought one to clear rocks from his farm.
He's on volcanic clay and while it might perform well in summer, it's just clogging up now.
I don't think there is a universal answer, so it's a matter of where you'll be using it. If you can avoid clay, the 50mm looks like a winner.

edit: apologies, as your new, you may not have noticed I'm from the southern half of the planet, so seasons are reversed.

There is no perfect spacing with a rake bucket. Too narrow and too wet and it clogs (although there is a trick to unclog it easily as you work) and too wide and it lets too much through. For turf prep on a smaller machine I run 50mm spacing and if the conditions are right, its spot on. You can seed or turf straight onto it as a finish. I have had both Digbits and BMC (which Druid now owns) and the Digbits one is the better bucket with Hardox tines. The BMC one is well made but you can bend the tines even on a 1.5t. If there's not much in the price I would go Digbits.
