Radio wiring issue

Hi All
I’ve just bought a replacement radio for my old case . It has the original voltage dropper installed . It delivers a steady ignition on 12volt feed (red wire) and also a permanent live 12v feed (yellow and red wire) and an earth (brown wire)
When I connect it up the radio comes on for a fraction of a second then goes off for a couple of seconds and keeps on repeating this .
I then tried the red wire from the ignition to both the red and yellow on the radio and it works but it has no memory once switched off (right pain in the arse ) I connected the yellow and red wire (permanent live ) back up to the yellow on the radio and put the tester on the connection and the tester light is going bright then dim and repeating over and over .
could the permanent yellow and red wire from the voltage dropper be delivering a very low supply for memory only, and the new radio be looking for a full on continuous 12 volt supply thus causing it to fluctuate ?
if so how can I sort it ? Could I use a relay to bring in the red supply mounted to the yellow on the radio when it gets a feed from the ignition 12volt and then switch supply back to the yellow wire when the ignition is off in order to keep the memory right in the radio ?
Any help much appreciated.

Yellow wire on radio are usually a feed for electric aerial maybe your back feeding power into radio and its cutting out after a few seconds

Standard Aftermarket Car Stereo Head Unit Wire Colors​

The easiest way to wire in an aftermarket car stereo is to look at car stereo wiring diagrams for the specific vehicle and head unit, but it's actually possible to get the job done without any labels, adapters, or diagrams. Unlike OEM head units, which are all over the place in terms of wire colors, there’s actually a standardized coloring scheme that most aftermarket manufacturers stick to.


Although there are exceptions to every rule, most aftermarket car stereos use a standardized coloring scheme for the power, ground, antenna, and speaker wires. If you have the pigtail that came with your aftermarket head unit, and it uses the standard colors, then the wires will have the following purposes and colors:

POWER WIRES​

• Constant 12V / Memory Keep Alive: Yellow
• Accessory: Red
• Dimmer/illumination: Orange w/white stripe

GROUND WIRES​

• Ground: black

SPEAKERS​

• Right front speaker(+): Gray
• Right front speaker(-): Gray w/black stripe
• Left front speaker(+): White
• Left front speaker(-): White w/black stripe
• Right rear speaker(+): Purple
• Right rear speaker(-): Purple w/black stripe
• Left rear speaker(+): Green
• Left rear speaker(-): Green w/black stripe

AMPLIFIER AND ANTENNA WIRES​

• Antenna: Blue
• Amplifier remote turn on: Blue w/white stripe

The only variation is that some radio makes have the permanent and switched live the other way round (some even used to have bullet connections on the wiring to make it easy to swap round).

I’ve not seen the dropper , It’s part of the machine electrics . I appreciate what your saying about the draw from it pulling the batteries down but this machine can sit for months and still start which makes me think could the permanent live be a very very low draw just for a memory only ?

Today I fitted the radio . I’ve just wired the red and yellow the other way around . Clearly on my new radio the yellow needs a bigger feed as the wire is bigger . The red must just be like an exciter from the ignition . It works but it is a right pain in the arse every time I shut the machine down having to reset it again .
this has made me think that there must be some radios out there that have a back up memory battery powered or work with trickle feed on the yellow wire just to remember settings .
Am I right ?
if so does anyone know of such a radio with dab and single din ?
