QRC couplings on JCB 8014 & connecting a protech post knocker

Hi All,

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but i'm still learning the ropes on a little 8014 JCB that i have. Appreciate if you can help with attachments and hydraulics.

It's piped for breaker. 2 quick connects on the boom, the left a smaller male one, and the right a larger female. I've been told these are probably 1/2" feed, and 3/4" return? I have bought a PROTECH P10 post knocker. It has a single ram, and single feed pipe, and a smaller male connector. This is the same as my smaller connector, so guessing 1/2".

So two questions. Can i just swap the male connector on the attachment for a female? Are there different types? I was advised JCB are different?

Will this work with the digger? Single feed to the knocker? I was hoping you just use the floor pedal to raise and it will drop when pedal lifted.

Yeah, just swap connectors. If you have different size ports on your machine I'm guessing it's single flow (not double acting)?

If your couplings are flat face, then for half inch you want a DN06 female coupling. Make sure you get the right thread on the end- they come in both 3/8" and 1/2"

think MM has a single acting ram though @doobin ... with only a single line to it ... t'ain't gonna return oil to the P line of the breaker unless it's open centre valve ?

I've used one of these Protech knockers before. They come with a single hose. An 8014 will only be single acting anyway so just connect it to the smaller side and the pedal on the cab should do the rest. Its quite a challenging thing to operate as the knocker is fairly heavy and an 8014 doesn't have expanding tracks so take care or it will have you over!

I have a Protech P180. Even with the single service you can lower with the foot pedal. I have the P180 on a 3 tonner and you just need to be careful with throwing it about!

Thanks all for the help. Flowfit threw me saying they would be different but the look just like that link. I'll swap the attachment coupling as I'm super wary about pressure on the digger side.

I've had a drive about with it on and I'll have to be careful. Dont think I'll operate it side on due to lack of expanding tracks. Dont have too much to do though so it's just handy to have.
