Hi,

I am having trouble with a diesle genorator that cuts out. It has died 3 times in a week , twice when we switched on some large heaters and once on its own but we suspect the heater switched its self on. Every time its within its load capacity but can't be coincidence its as it takes a large current. You can see in the picture where it spiked then died suddenly. My thoughts are its a problem with the governor and stalling when trying to change to keep the rpm level. We have recently had a problem with water in the fuel but this has been rectified but could be potential damage to components. Any thoughts on tests and repairs.

As a start I’d check and re-check all your fuel filters and tank pickup - it might be fuel starvation when under heavy load. If you’ve had water in your fuel you could have a diesel-bug outbreak which is a pain in the backside...

When these heaters turn on what exactly happens ? Any smoke? The above post is spot on but you could look at injectors too potentially failing under load

Is generator earthed properly, check resistor setting for earth as if set to low will cut out generator to save damaging the generator, also if its a bundled generator check bund sensor

We changed the diesle cube ,filters ,fuel water seporater and fuel. It doesn't cut out at high loads only when it jumps from low to high. First to times the engine died straight away 3rd time it spluttered and you could hear it dying with plenty of white smoke

Check what injection pump is on the engine. If it's a bosch vp 30 they are known for being trouble. Google it to check symptoms.

It’s what I do!
Sorry the answer was probably in the title, has it a fuel filter in a black canister with built in electric pump? Run it from a separate can of diesel up high, see if it does the same!
