Pel Job EB25.4 oil hose issue

Hi all,

First post and I know very little, so please be gentle.

I've just picked up an old Pel Job eb25.4 to help us with a self build house renovation. When it was delivered it dumped a fair amount of oil on my drive. I was fobbed off that it was from a previous leak, which I knew was nonsense, but it was cheap, so I figured I would just have a look myself. On further inspection there is a hose attached to the top of the engine head which is just dangling into the cowling at the bottom of the engine. This is where all my oil is coming from. However, I can't work out what it is meant to attach to. I assumed that maybe it might go to some sort of scavenger pump, but I'm not sure that makes a great deal of sense.

Can anyone help me figure out where this attaches?

Looks like a breather pipe, it'll just dangle. Bad news if it's leaking that much though!

Where did you buy it from?....

does it connect to a nipple on the rocker cover?
(that's the usual connection point for a breather)

Thanks for the quick replies. Hopefully this video helps a bit with where it is attached to. I thought it was a mitsubishi engine, but might be wrong.

That'll be why it isn't working then.

Someone on a pel job group mentioned it should connect to the air filter (see attached photo).

Does that make sense to anyone? I just can't work out why you'd want exhaust gases being pumped into the air filter. There does appear to be a place for it though.

That tap (on the air filter) is for a vaccum indicator showing if the filter element is clogged.
It's not uncommon to connect the breather into the filtered air. It keeps the engine bay cleaner without the oil vapour venting.

All being well, there shouldn't be any exhaust gasses from the vent.
If exhaust gasses or excessive oil vapour are venting, it suggests 'all is not well' with the engine.

This is for a missing vacuum gauge for telling you the filter is blocked.

This is crank case breather pipe, remove rocker cover and look inside, it maybe that the diaphragm has a hole in it?

if it was dumping oil on your drive on delivery it was faulty at point of delivery .... who did you buy it from - private or dealer ??
