OXY ACET Hose question

While back I picked up some oxy/acet equipment very cheap, small 1M3 bottles - the 6mm hoses were paggered and there were no arrestors in line , so ordered some replacement hoses and arrestors from L&S when they arrived the hoses were 10mm as opposed to the 6mm advertised (a mistake on their website), they have told me that the 10mm is fine for the
job, I know very little about this kit and wondered if 10mm was o.k or not ? I have heard something about flow rates on small bottles but I guess this is dictated by the torch more than anything ??

Going up a size on the hoses will be fine.
Going down a size might make it a bit asthmatic when using a large tip say for heating.
The only down side of larger (than necessary) hoses is the weight/bulk if they are long and you have to carry them!

yeh fine Kev ... as said .. heavier/bulkier and depends on what terminations were on the originals, whether they'll fit your gear or not?
if you were wanting a pipe to feed a smaller FN size welding torch, 6mm hoses would be an esssential ... IMHDO ... 3/8" hoses'd be a nightmare to use with an FN sized welding torch ... bad enough on the Saphire sized interchangeable welding/cutting mixer type torch.
for ANM250 and up, size cutting torches, 3/8" is essential for gas flow

Cheers - They fit the bottle end but not the little torch -so I was going to get adaptors cos bit of a pain to send hoses back to the U.K......but now you point it out that torch is going to be a Tw*T with those hoses .......... might in fact be better getting a bigger torch but not sure what suits the little bottles... as you can tell its all new to me .......... what do you reckon ??

get yerself some 3/8 to 1/4 M/M adaptors and a couple of 2 or 3M x 1/4 tails for the ends of your new hoses to allow you to fit the FN torch to them and give you decent movement

On EDIT .... just noticed the PTFE tape in the pic .... don't use it ... the seal is in the cones/conical seats, not the threads ... always be careful not to damage the seats .... if you're going to do much cutting, get your self a decent NM250 torch .. bout 35 quid ... the combi cutting heads ain't great in comparison.

get yerself some 3/8 to 1/4 M/M adaptors and a couple of 2 or 3M x 1/4 tails for the ends of your new hoses to allow you to fit the FN torch to them and give you decent movement

alternate thought ... just get some straight 3/8 - 3/8 M/M couplers and have one end of the 1/4 hose tails fitted with 3/8 size unions (not the torch end obviously ... but tell 'em, as there are one way fittings at the torch end of the lines ... or should be, usually)

Good spot but Ptfe tape is there from something else - i havent used it on and fittings
