@Nick... firm I'm on atm are abusing it for their cards in lads. Lad broke his ankle before xmas not back till April. They've put him on furlough so he gets 80% and it costs them nowt. The contracts manager is off atm as partner had a baby, again he told me he's going on furlough for a couple of weeks. One of the directors told me he is furloughed 2 days a week atm, obviously just subsidising his own wages. I've a good mind to shop them in but not really my style with karma.

However this may sound ,that's not actually "abusing it" as long as they can prove their business is affected by covid etc and they claim and then pass it on to the employees it's technically OK.
Abusing it is the manufacturer here with 170 lads who've not been paid yet but they've been claiming furlough for months...
I know what you say, it may "not be in the spirit of it" but that's my view not saying it's right...
The lad with the ankle... traditionally he'd be be on diddly squat ....perhaps this isn't the right thread..fir this

Furlough. I have furloughed my Nephew and also part furloughed myself since the schools are off. Our daughter struggled through the last school closure and we decided that she needed help with the school work so she did not slip back again. We have work to do but putting my family first was more important. As I only claim a small salary my money is enough to cover the insurance and miscellaneous costs of the business. I don’t want my nephew working and calling me during school time so sending him home is a knock on from the schools being closed. In fairness to the government allowing to part furlough removes the need for some people to “bend the rules”. If I have to do something one day then I can work and not claim the furlough. Previous rules where a minimum of 3 weeks off!!
