Hello,
I am new to Hydraulics, and I would like to replace the hydraulic filter on my plant machine.
The filter is a Donaldson P171606 Spin On.

Can I unscrew it and change it over like a normal Oil Filter.
Will the fluid in the system need topping up and bleeding?

And is this something I can do myself?
Thanks

looks like a straight spin on to me ... don't forget to lube the seal, putting it on and fill the filter as best you can before fitting, if it's vertically orientated (the right way up, of course ;):giggle:)

Hi yes, I think it is a straight spin on.
I was going to lube the seal as you said.
But how do you mean fill the filter before fitting?

Thanks

just as I say, if the filter is orientated the right way up, fill it as much as you can with hydraulic oil - pour it in before screwing it back to the housing

Ok great, I understand now.
Yes, it is mounted vertically.
What Hydraulic Fluid would be best to use?

I looks like it’s on the return side so you don’t need to worry about bleeding the system. ai is usually more of an issue if you drain the pump for any reason.

almost certainly Bri -- didn't give that a thought, about being on the low pressure return, but a pre-filled filter will replace the filter full that comes off, virtually

Would be better to do it cold as the tank may be pressurised after use!

If you are lucky it will have in iso number on the tank filler or tank top!

The most important thing when working with hydraulics is cleanliness.
