Mot type 3 reduced fines

Stoned up an area that’s going to have self binding gravel on it, I opted for type 3 reduced fines sub base to improve drainage.

Working an absolute treat we’re currently until we change road levels it’s taking all the water off the lane.

Although not on the drawing we put land drains in the subbase 250mm of it, been consolidated in 100mm layers with 150kg belle wacker, it’s gone rock hard. No spongy areas like you sometimes get with type 2 etc.

I think it’ll be my choice of subbase from now on

How I wish to live in an area close to the quarry so I could specify the proper sub base!

We are stuck with whatever the firm who bring it in on the railway want to call type 1. I've had it like a sludge of fines, I've had it with lumps over 100mm in it.

Stuff like track ballast for a v-ditch that will be driven over is special order only.

I use type3 for backfilling retaining walls etc, works well. Haven’t checked the price of any aggregate this year as I stock piled before Xmas last year but I can’t imagine it’s a nice invoice these days!

8 miles from the quarry here .....couldn't of dropped luckier really, when looking for a house in France I don't think Mrs would of put "handy quarry" in the search criteria

I found it very amusing I'm new Zealand for road repairs they just dig a hole practically in the verge and process the stone from there

Yeah there has been a refusal to expand here apparantly...... so who knows.

No we aren't - you just have to order from a proper aggregate supplier, not a grab firm who "recycle" in a farm yard and "supply" type 1 they get tipped in their yard from proper aggregate suppliers!
Mind you, the last time I used type 3 in a decent quantity it was being brought in from Torr Works quarry near Shepton Mallet - that's a fair drive away but it is great stuff. Day Aggregate stock it at their depots too if you only want a few lorry loads.

Days had none last time I wanted some- like I say, it has to be brought from a quarry miles away. I usually use TJs but Day are great for stuff like Redhill Fines.

As Dudmans have the rail terminal in Chi, every supplier gets it from there as it's cheaper than sending a lorry over a hundred miles.

Any dudmans stuff we've had has been aweful. Days is really consistent. And there range is huge especially the sand school stuff.

We`ve got loads of quarries around here, the villages and hamlets wouldn't be here if it wasn't for mines and quarries, it's just the people who move in don't want them.

Wash your mouth out!! My farm yard type1 & 6f2 is as good as it gets! No 6f2 bingo going on here! New crusher even has a magnet

The china clay quarry's do the sand and pea gravel which derives from granite that has rotten down

I went to Stoke Hall this week, never been to that one before. Must say they were very helpful and their h and s was on my level. Lol

Used 805 ( type3 ) on a job this year as had to be free draining for radon think we paid £18PT delivered very lucky down this way with so much choice of quarries
