MK1 3C 1967 Barn find

Hello all, new to this forum. Just purchased this machine, can anyone help with the missing roof part.

She runs sweet drives and digs...a good early machine with very little rot...any opinions and thoughts appreciated

It's strange the slew is on top of the King post. Most have it on the bottom. I'm no expert. Looks a good digger

The thing with JCB is oneday they just decide to do something different, then change it back once they get backlash! Thus rare and random additions to some machines..

Yes I agree they put a stack pipe on the exhaust instead of a pea tin!

Nice old machine there, The door opens back round on itself up against the side window, That makes it a late 67 early 68 machine just before the gave them the sliding doors, The earlier 3 and 3c machines did have the slew pots on the top of the king post. For the back window i would place some wanted ads first as someone may still have a half decent one knocking about but failing that You may need to get one made, If you contact Julian Carder ( he does some really nice machine restorations) I think he does the marketing at JCB HQ, he may be able to help you with drawings to make one. Was that machine in East Sussex, I only ask as there is a local builder that uses and early 3C on his house build jobs.

Looking at pics of others, I think the carriage has been put on upside down.
Can't imagine there is any oil in the slew box.

I stand corrected

English gearboxes aren't known for keeping the oil in when they are the right way up - porbably why they turned it up the right way on the next model.
