I've also thought about this and I'm thinking it may be easier to start with a heavy duty clam shell bucket and cut out a window one side, beef up a bit with cutting edge and such.
Thoughts Druid?

Hmm .. interesting tack ... trouble is most clams are fairly lightly built in the sides ... edges are the strong bits and you've all the operating mechanism within the load area if you used summat like a kins 604 or the like
do-able but'd need a lot of beefing up so's not to twist it and also need a system to keep the crap out of the operating bits.
