Mini Loader hire?

Hi All

Been thinking of starting to hire out some of our compact loaders! Along with possibly a few other bits. Yes I know the crack with self drive etc, and I'm not going to retire on it soon, but with things the way they are every little helps an all that.
So the question is, would you, have you or do you hire compact loaders? We would have a range of attachments etc, we're talking multione loaders not skidsteers etc, initially anyway.

delivery cost might kill it for me Boyo ... be a handy thing occasionally though, for sure, if there was one local ... can think of a couple of things'd be handy for

You’ll never know unless you try Aiden..... could you do some sort of deal with say a local builders merchant?? Or with local farmers/ small holdings owners? Had a friend who did something many many years ago with skidsteers for farmers and cleaning chicken sheds, did/does very well out of it.

its a niche service, the tree boys like them a lot.

Just to compare the old boy running the 1950's crane round our way is out every day and turns down work. He makes a very good living off that old lump!

I will wish you all the best with that one I have never been a fan of ether hiring in or out for that mater on self drive. it seems to me that the money is in the charges when plant is returned that seems to be the key to me repairs, fule and tyres punchers etc I think you need a system in place from the get go to make shore you can charge for all that stuff.

my other thought would be are you going to purchase a machine from some one that is going to be competing for a hire next week ?

Make sure you have some carbon books made up with terms of hire, state insurance must be in place and get them to sign it.

Yes still will come back damaged now and again and then other times stuff will come back cleaner than it went out.

Defiantly a market for anything niche.

I have often looked at these niche markets but its likely to be a lot tougher than you think. I have it with our Robocut. Which is now sold, the second one I have bought to hire out and then sold as while the enquiry's are high the actual realistic hit rate is probably one in 20 will result in a hire.

The cost of advertising, owning the asset, depreciation, damage and all the other things that go with it, generally mean its a tough one to make a quid out of and that was with buying it at trade cost.

I saw a welfare unit getting towed up the dual carriageway yesterday afternoon heading out of Cornwall thought ive never heard of that company before?

Popped them into Google, headoffice way up in Scotland nearest depot south was Newcastle like with any 'niche' if you can call toliet hire niche youve got to be able to travel.

Another friend of mine supplies toliets from Cornwall up into Somerset / Wiltshire as the hire companies around that way dont give a good enough service he dedicates 1 day a week to go up and pump 20/30 toliets @ £20 per week

Smallish hire firm near me hires out an Avant, seems to do a bit with it. Certainly with forestry guys, agri maintenance and sports pitches etc.

i would think you could prob sway customers to having the loader in a lot of instances over say a 1t dumper

you might find the Multione/Avant rep can put you in touch with hire firms they’ve supplied previously? See if any would be willing to chat to you about how they get on with hiring them out, if they’re not in your area or in direct competition with you then I’m sure they would be happy to discuss? I would if it were me.

Thing with the hire job is being busy and making money can be two very different things. A unique machine can be very profitable but also the customer base can be very small

Fleet one and offer it for hire you can always sell it as a low houred used one of it doesn't take off do you have a low loader /something bigger available to go pick any up that get turned over or brake down?

I've got a couple of welfare units tried advertising them out for hire not a single enquiry. I keep one for my own work but reality is will be selling the other off

I wonder if the Scottish welfare firm are getting stuck into the forestry market - there’s been a big push for this by the FC. It might be a niche they’ve tapped into nationwide possibly.
