KX101 Bent Ram/ First Hydraulic system work

Hi all,

Today was not the best day of digging.
I have bent my dipper ram.

I have two questions -

Does anyone have any good links for salvage of these diggers, as my local Kubota service department say it is too old to get a new one.

Second, I am plently good enough with mechanical works, but I haven't done anything on a hydraulic system like this before so could someone give be the main steps to avoid injury
How heavy is this ram likely to be? Should I strap and sling it before trying to remove it?

Rod and reseal is generally the way out of that, 2 to 3 years ago that would have cost £275/ £300 now days possibly more, lots of engineering or hydraulic companies offer the service.

A new rod is definitely the way to go. It shouldn't be overly expensive.

The ram won't be overly heavy about 30kg ish depending how much oil there is in it

Lower the arm down as low as you can then knock the pin out the rod end undo the pipes and pull the rod out by hand to get as much oil out as you can to save it making a mess later then the cylinder end pin can be knocked out. I wouldn't go any further stripping it if your not familiar with it take the whole thing to get a new rod made

Yep take it to a repair shop. Your biggest problem will be getting the old pins out the ends of the rams. Start with some good penetrating oil we’ve started using TEF100 from AIG seems to do a good job. If it’s really stuck you may need gas but having someone with experience would be a good start.
